Continue ReadingVincennes traveled to Kaskaskia for a Region 24 JUCO matchup on Tuesday night. Last year both of these teams made the national tournament with Vincennes taking home the national championship. Kaskaskia is a tough team to play at home year in and year out. Early on the host Blue Devils stormed out to a lead behind their inside play. Vincennes took control .in the later part of the first half and never looked back rolling to an 87-57 win. Here are the Most Intriguing Prospects: Vincennes vs Kaskaskia!
SF Kevin Osawe (Vincennes – Sophomore)
The top prospect in this game was this 6’6” small forward from Canada. He received MVP of the national tournament last season and is one of the best JUCO wings in the country this year. Early on the sophomore struggled to get in rhythm offensively. Didn’t have the easiest time creating his own shot off the bounce. Once he knocked down a couple threes off the catch it opened everything up and his confidence soared. Osawe has a picture perfect form and when he is ready to shoot most of the time it is going in! Feathery shot that makes him a major threat from beyond the arc. Mixed in a couple floaters. Best move off the bounce was late in the game when he ripped baseline for a finish. Rebounds well for a wing grabbing boards on both ends of the floor. When locked in on the defensive end he can be a major presence with his length and ability to move his feet laterally. Osawe finished with 24 points.
PG Craig Porter (Vincennes – Sophomore)
Porter came off the bench for the Trailblazers. The 6’1” point guard was at his best using his strength and speed to attack downhill. Consistently went right at his defender for scores at the cup. Solid pull up shot. Good on ball defender that puts pressure on the opposing guard. Went for 11 points.
C Chinedu Okanu (Vincennes – Sophomore)
This 6’7” 225 pound five man is a physically built post. He is a quality area rebounder the snatches them in traffic. Powerful inside and garners deep post position on the catch. Right handed hook shot is his go to move. He had 8 points.
PF Christian Wells (Vincennes – Freshman)
Wells started out the game well for Vincennes. The 6’5” freshman is an undersized four that plays bigger than his height with his length and tenacity. Junk yard dog forward that has a strong body. Good rebounder that plays with energy. He scored 4 points.
SG Randy Tucker (Vincennes – Freshman)
This freshman we have followed throughout his high school career. He has grown height wise to where he is now listed at 6’4”. Rangy frame with solid length. He knocked down several threes off the catch. Crossed his man making him fall before drilling another mid-range jumper. Made several nice entry passes to the Vincennes posts. Went for 10 points.
C Kevin Kone (Vincennes – Sophomore)
Kone has outstanding size and strength at 6’9”. He seals well on the interior often leading to a right handed hook shot. Sound footwork with quick and decisive moves on the block. Got on the glass for a put back. Even showed off some athleticism in the open floor getting a steal and taking it the other way in transition for a dunk. He had 9 points.
PG Chuka Mekkam (Vincennes – Sophomore)
This 6’0” Oregon native displayed a solid all-around floor game. He handles it well and is effective around ball screens. Makes sound decisions off them either bursting to the hoop for a layup or creating for others with his passing. Moves well laterally on defense staying in front of his man. He had 8 points.
SF John Ukomadu (Vincennes – Freshman)
At 6’6” this freshman wing jumped off the floor at us in the second half with his upside. Long and rangy wing with major bounce! He flashed on both ends of the floor hitting a mid-range jumper, getting on the glass for a put back, and scoring on a post-up. Upside as a defender! Finished with 8 points.
PF Jacob Thompson (Kaskaskia – Sophomore)
Thompson is a face up post that impressed us with KC back in October at the Jamboree in Vincennes. At 6’8” he can stretch the floor with his shooting and is extremely active on the interior for second chance points. Contributed early on the defensive end with blocking shots. He went for 13 points.
C La-Quiem Walker (Kaskaskia – Sophomore)
At 6’9” 235 pounds Walker has the size and length you like in a five man. He isn’t a great athlete which limits him in some respects, but he was extremely good on Tuesday. Defensively he showed well as a shot blocker using his long arms standing straight up getting several swats in that way. He is a sound area rebounder high pointing them. As an offensive threat he sealed well for buckets, hit a mid-range shot, and crashed the offensive glass for put backs. Finished with 16 points.
PG Nico Johnson (Kaskaskia – Sophomore)
The Danville native had quite a stretch in the first half. He slashed for a bucket in the half court, drilled multiple jumpers including one where he was fouled, and threw a bullet pass for an assist. Acceleration with the ball in his hands. He had 12 points.
