Adam Miller to Illinois
Big news on Thursday night as Morgan Park star 2020 combo guard Adam Miller just declared his commitment to play his college basketball at Illinois. He announced his decision at the Jordan Brand store in downtown moments ago. His other finalists were Arizona and Louisville.
When did he make the final decision?
“I made it last Saturday.”
Being a Peoria native he knows the history of players going from there to Champaign.
“It is in my roots with guys like Frank Williams, Sergio McClain, Coach Wayne McClain. All them went there. Why not follow and keep the pipeline going.”
He says he has learned a lot from former teammate and current Illini sophomore Ayo Dosunmu.
“What I learned from Ayo is to be a pro. Everything he does he is serious about. I like to joke around a lot. He knows when it is time to be a pro and when to be serious.”
Most insiders felt this was a slam dunk that he would pick Illinois. The real question was would he sign his national letter of intent in the early signing period.
“I did not sign. I still want to look at everything. I am 100% committed to Illinois, but I am still looking at everything because this is a big factor in my life. It is not just about the university. It is about me benefiting from the team and the team benefiting from me. I just want to know everything is in place for me when the time comes.”
He also mentioned Michigan talked to him earlier this week.
“They came and sat down with me two or three days ago. I am still looking at every choice, but I feel I am settled at Illinois.”
For Illinois to land a national level recruit from in-state like Adam Miller is huge. They have recruited him for over three years. What does he bring to the table? Miller is an electric scorer that can put up points in a hurry! He proved that over the spring and summer with the Mac Irvin Fire where he averaged 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per contest. The three level scorer is an instant impact player on the offensive end from day one. Crisp ball handler that puts combination moves together or can just blow straight past his man on drives with speed. Quality shooter that can bomb in threes along with drilling stop and pop mid-range pull ups. A big area that he has upside is defensively. He opened eyes with what he did on that end of the floor at USA Basketball’s fall minicamp.
This is the second time in three years Illinois has landed a top ranked prospect from Morgan Park announcing at the Jordan Brand store as Ayo Dosunmu did the same two years ago. Miller who played one season with Dosunmu for the Mustangs is expected to replace the Illini sophomore guard who most believe will enter the 2020 NBA Draft.
