At 6’5, Hecht brings good size and length to the floor and is a confident shooter who works hard off the ball to get open and uses his size and athleticism well at the defensive end of the court. He mostly played a reserve role for Wamego last season coming off the bench, but with the Red Raiders losing a lot of its scoring punch to graduation, Hecht showed this summer he could step into a bigger role.
Playing with SSA Elite, Hecht was among his team’s leading scorers, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds per game throughout the summer.
“As a player I’m primarily a shooting guard and I really worked on shooting and scoring multiple ways,” he said.”In the off season and AAU season we worked a lot on quickness, ball handling, and footwork.
“Being my height, I was a post early on and now am really a guard or forward so adjusting has been key to getting better.”
Hecht says Wamego expects to improve its record from a year ago and make a run in the postseason.
“For the high school season just overall having more success than last year,” he said. “Last year was a down year and we need to rebound.”
Hecht says his dad has been the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“He helps me workout and takes me to the gym a lot while being my main supporter,” Hecht said.
While he does not yet hold an offer, Hecht has drawn interest from several programs.
