Smith is the type of point guard that turns the wheel for his team. He simply makes his teammates better when he’s on the court. Smith is strong on the dribble drive, where he can either finish at the rim or draw defenders and dish off. He plays solid team defense and has the ability to lock up his man in 1-on-1 situations. Smith is a good rebounder off the perimeter, having a nose for the ball and reading it off the rim.
Smith is currently working on his game and gaining experience. Right now, he’s focused on becoming more consistent with his shot. Smith points to a game against Voyager as his best moment in basketball. In that game he took over on both ends, picking up a game sealing steal in the final seconds. He has his sights set on Districts this season and a possible matchup with Detroit Northwestern.
Maleek Smith is hoping to see his recruitment begin as high school season starts. He has a lot to offer a program at the next level. First of all, he’s a well rounded young man. Smith will be a welcomed addition to a team and a campus as a whole. On the court, he can provide intensity and energy. He will provide a college coach with a top notch defender and a player that communicates on both ends.
Smith is driven by his goals and is on a path to achieve them. He wants to be the first person from his family to go to college. Smith wants to live out his dream and continue his basketball career as far as he can. It’s also very important to him that he makes his Mother proud.
