Crisp change of direction and has the ball on a string. The sophomore at times can over dribble a bit, but he is so effective off the bounce scoring. Put combination moves together to win off the bounce throughout the day getting to the rim at a high rate. In the top 30 game he won co-MVP honors for his play. Lived in the lane where he either finished or made sound decisions as a passer. I think that was the area we came away most impressed with was his improved decision making as a distributor. Also drilled an array of key threes including several pull ups. Currently sets at #2 overall in the 2022 class and did nothing to lose that spot with his play at Pangos.
Drane ran with the Mac Irvin Fire 15U this past spring and summer.
“It went good. We were winning some games and losing some too. We were growing at the end. We were learning as a young team.”
Where has he seen the most improvement in his game?
“Defense and passing. Getting my team involved more.”
The sophomore and his teammates have been gelling playing with each other in open gyms this fall.
“We are looking real good. Open gyms have been real intense which has been helping me pick up my game playing with varsity two years in a row. Open gyms have helped us prepare for this year.”
He spoke about his role on the team this season.
“My role will be being a point guard and getting everyone involved. Playing defense because defense wins games.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I don’t have any offers yet, but if I keep working they will come. Akron and Loyola have talked to me and said they are going to be around and like my game.”
