<p>It is October and that means its only days away from season opening games. Let’s take a dive into the various districts, and begin previewing teams and players to watch! Today we dive into the 6A-II District 16!</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Pre-Season Player of the Year:</strong></span></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Reggie Comeaux </strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">as seen in the picture is one of the most underrated prospects in the Greater Houston area. Reggie is tough both physically and mentally and has spring boards on the bottom of his feet. He is the most athletic player in his class from the Greater Houston area. His outside game continues to develop as he is becoming a better deep ball shooter. He was District Newcomer of the Year last season. </span><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Lonzo Rand </strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">really helped himself over the Spring/Summer as one of the best scorers from the Greater Houston area for his class. The senior will be a handful for opponents as he is able to score the ball at all levels at a high rate. He has already scored multiple 40 point outings during fall ball. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Team to Beat:</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Westfield Mustangs will be the team to beat in this District. Last season they went 9-5 in District play to secure the fourth spot and gained a playoff berth were they loss in the first round. Finished 18-14 overall on the season. Started out pretty rough and ironed out a lot of kinks and rebuilt their roster, where they then went on a 6 game winning streak. Look for this high pace team to put that half-court pressure on everyone they play. They will be anchored by these prospects Senior shooting guard </span><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Lonzo Rand</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Senior post 6’5 PF</span><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong> Tyson Anderson</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Junior point guard</span><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong> Ja’dyn Chaney</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">, and Sophomore combo forward</span><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;"> Willie Williams</span></strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> who earned all district 1st team as a freshman last season and is averaging around 21 points per game during fall ball this year.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Biggest Threat:</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Nimitz Cougars will be the biggest threat in the District. Talk about one of the best front courts in high school basketball. Nimitz went 16-15 overall (10-4) in district play and finished second in the district and loss in the first round of the playoffs. The Cougars will be led by the front-court running mates of Senior small forward </span><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Reggie Comeaux</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and Junior power forward <span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Ashton Smith </strong></span>who has picked up several D1 offers over the summer.  They will also receive contributions from Senior point guard <span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Antione Rose</strong></span> and Sophomore point guard 6’1 <span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Kentrelle Royston </strong></span>who will surprise a lot of people with his athleticism. </span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Sleeper:</strong></span></p> <p>Spring Dekaney is not a team that everyone should be over looking right away. Expect a big time turn from last years performance with the Wildcats and Coach Stpehens. <span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>David Cattell</strong></span> will be the senior leader for his team. He has been playing at a high level and has picked up an offer because of his play. They will also have junior forward <span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Var'Keyes Gumms</strong></span> and All-District 1st team member back once football season is over. They are returning a lot of players from last season and they are playing team ball, also expect contributions from senior wing <span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Devion Medlow</strong></span> and junior guard<span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong> Lamont Lawrence</strong></span>. </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Top Prospects to Watch </span><b>[Last Year Award]</b></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Lonzo Rand</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’3 SG Sr. Spring </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Westfield </span></i><b>[All-District 1st Team]</b></p> <p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Reggie Comeaux</span></strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’5 SF Sr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Nimitz </span></i><a href="https://prephoops.com/texas/rankings/2020-rankings/"><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">PH</span><span style="color: #ff9900;">TX</span><span style="color: #ff0000;">150 </span></strong></span></a><b>[Newcomer]</b></p> <p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Ashton Smith </span></strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">6’7 PF Jr.</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Aldine Nimitz </span></i><a href="https://prephoops.com/texas/rankings/2021-rankings/"><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">PH</span><span style="color: #ff9900;">TX</span><span style="color: #ff0000;">75</span></strong></span></a></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Willie Williams</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’5 F So. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Westfield </span></i><b>[All-District 1st Team]</b></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Patrick Punch </strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">6’5 SF Jr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Eisenhower</span></i><a href="https://prephoops.com/texas/rankings/2021-rankings/"><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;"> PH</span><span style="color: #ff9900;">TX</span><span style="color: #ff0000;">75 </span></strong></a><b>[All-District 2nd Team]</b></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Var’Keyes Gumms</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’3 F Jr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Dekaney </span></i><b>[All-District 1st Team]</b></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Ja’dyn Chaney</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’0 PG Jr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Westfield</span></i></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Greg Crawford</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’3 WG Jr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Benjamin Davis</span></i></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Bralyn Thomas </strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">6’0 PG Sr.</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Aldine </span></i><b>[All-District 2nd Team]</b></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Antoine Rose</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 5’10 PG Sr.</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Aldine Nimitz </span></i><b>[All-District 2nd Team]</b></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Wade Autenreith</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’7 PF Jr.</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Spring</span></i></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>David Cattell</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 6’2 G Sr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Dekaney</span></i></p> <p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Dylan Mackey</strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> 5’11 PG Jr. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Benjamin Davis</span></i></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Top Contenders</span></p> <ol> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Westfield</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Nimitz</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Benjamin Davis</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aldine Eisenhower</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spring Dekaney</span></li> </ol>
