High school basketball practice is right around the corner which is exciting. Here I’m taking a look at some guards who could take that next step!
Guards:
Andre Irvin (5’9” / PG 2021 / Olentangy Orange): Another player that needs talked about more in the class of 2021. Size doesn’t limit Irvin all that much as he can create space with a nice handle and score it at the rim. Irvin can shoot it from deep, with quite the range. Tough for his size too. Orange lost some senior talent, so watch for Irvin to improve big time on 11 PPG form last season. Was solid during the grassroots season.
Derrick Hardin (6’1” / G 2020 / Worthington Christian): Hardin had a really solid summer on the grassroots side of things this year. Hardin can shoot it, get to the rim and more. After putting in 12 points a contest last year, expect that number to go up by a couple at least. Hardin has gotten stronger, finishes more consistent and is set for a solid senior year.
Lincoln Cunningham (6’1” / G 2021 / Fredericktown): A small school prospect that we have been able to watch is Fredericktown’s Lincoln Cunningham. His brother was their leading scorer last year and he was right behind. Lincoln put up just under 13 points a game last year, including some big games. A shooter with good form from distance that can knock it down. The junior has good size at the guard spot that benefits his game. Expect his numbers to go up substantially this year.
Damian Davis (5’10” / G 2020 / Bexley): Davis is a player I got to watch quite a bit this summer and can’t wait to check out this winter. Quick smaller guard who plays hard and can get to the bucket. Davis plays the defensive end which returns transition buckets. The senior has the ability to score from the mid range too. Expect to see a scoring boost this season for Damian Davis.
Dan Lee (6’0” / G 2020 / Dublin Jerome): Dan Lee might be the smartest player in Central Ohio when it comes to the books. Known as a player that can knock it down, Lee can do more. The senior will be one of Jerome’s top players this season rightfully so. Lee can run the floor, lead a fast break and get teammates involved. Jerome plays a great brand of team ball that gets everyone involved, which is fun to watch. Lee could see a boost in scoring big time this season after the Celtics lost some seniors.
Dylan Johnson (6’3” / G 2021 / River Valley): Johnson was solid for the Vikings last year at times and always have good minutes. The junior has grown a couple inches that should benefit his game. A bigger frame should allow the athletic guard to get to the hoop with even more poise. Johnson can shoot it from deep and will be a vital piece to succeed for River Valley this season. The 2021 prospect has some big scoring games under his belt and that should continue this season.
