The final four in the Varsity League are Hoffman Estates vs Niles West and Loyola Academy vs the winner of Maines East and Chicago United. The upset on the day was Glenbrook South being knocked out by Hoffman Estates despite Matt Rosenbergers varsity league high of 27 points for GBS. In the Frosh/Soph league Andrew Mann scored 41 points with no threes, a fall league high for both levels. Final playoff schedules and statistics can be found at ALL IN’s website
VARSITY HIGHLIGHTS: Week 7
Wheeling 68 Chicago Lab U-High 61
Sophomore Ryan Duncan put in the most memorable performance of the day, almost willing his Chicago Lab team to a win. Duncan scored it from all three levels, putting in 25 points for the game, including six threes, with pistol pete-like flare. Jaden Terrell led Wheeling with 14 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Niles West 67 Wheeling 58
Niles West has been impressively consistent for the first seven weeks and knocked out Wheeling to advance to the final four. Will Laude scored 21 for Niles West while teammate Adan Steferovic followed with16 points.
Loyola Academy 48 Kansas 44
Loyola Academy by far had the toughest route to the final four, and edged out Kansas with Scotty Dean scoring 18 points in the round of 16. Kansas was led by Frank Taylor’s 12.
Loyola Academy 46 Maine South 44
Another major upset of the day was Loyola Academy’s juniors knocking off undefeated Maine South on a putback in overtime. Scotty Dean once again led Loyola with 25 points. Marko Anderson and Omar Farrag had 11 each for Maine South.
Chicago United 68 Ida Crown 62
Ida Crown challenged Chicago United down to the wire, but Devin Young stepped up and scored a game high 24 points for Chicago United to advance to the quarterfinals. Micah Cohen led Ida Crown with 17.
Maine East 73 Downers Grove South 44
Maine East came out on fire and never gave Downers Grove South a chance to be in the game despite a major height advantage for DGS. Maine East hit eight threes while Shray Patel paced them with 18 points.
Hoffman Estates 48 Maine West 41
Hoffman Estates with the next upset on the day knocking off higher seeded Maine West to advance to the quarterfinals despite Jared Pearson of Maine West leading all scorers with 16 points.
Hoffman Estates 52 Glenbrook South 42
Hoffman Estates playing back-to-back games pulled off back-to-back upsets by knocking out Glenbrook Souths juniors to advance to the final four. Shayan Badal led Maine East with 15 points with support from Levent Sertesen and Nahum Smith-Hernandez, scoring 11 each.
FROSH/SOPH HIGHLIGHTS: Week 7
Ida Crown 58 Indiana 57
A big win for Ida Crown to advance to the quarterfinals. Ida Crown’s Matthew Schreiber led all frosh/soph scorers on the day with 26 points. Indiana had strong outings from Amarias Stephens and Rory Robbins scoring 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Glenbrook South 66 Ida Crown 36
Ida Crown didn’t have enough gas left in the tank to pull off consecutive wins while Glenbrook South advanced to the final four of the JV bracket. Nathan Shapiro scored a game high 20 pints for Glenbrook South while Ida Crown was paced by Joe Wortman’s 12.
Illinois 50 Iowa 41
Soham Sarkas poured in 21 points for Illinois who led 26-19 at half and never looked back. Illinois advanced to the final four of the JV bracket with the win.
North Carolina 64 Notre Dame 61
Sean Clavadetscher and John Brookover each scored 14 points for North Carolina while Jack Tzur had 11 for Notre Dame. North Carolina advanced to the final four of the frosh/soph bracket with the win.
Clemson 72 Miami 35
A game high 24 points for Connor Mosele aided Clemson in their big win over Miami to advance to the quarterfinals. Miami was led by Jacob Breitman’s 13 points.
Virginia 74 Clemson 48
Virginia blew the doors off in the second half after only leading 28-26 halftime. Virginia poured in eight threes in the second half, and 10 for the game, to pull away from Clemson. Antoine Thomas did all his work inside for Virginia with 18 points. Clemson’s Jonathon Tack led all scorers with 23.
Duke 66 Syracuse 65
Andrew Mann dominated from start to finish scoring a fall league high 41 points without hitting a three pointer for Duke. Kai Taylor had 18 points for Syracuse, which had four players score in double figures.
Georgia Tech 75 Duke 45
Duke also ran out of gas, as Georgia Tech rolled behind 24 points from Brandon Sorokin to advance to the final four of the frosh/soph bracket.
Highland Park 53 Hersey 51
The biggest upset in the frosh/soph league saw Highland Park advance to the final four behind Sean Goodman’s 16 points. Hersey was led by Sean Safford’s five threes as he finished with 17 points.
St. Ignatius 56 Wisconsin 54
Austin Toon and Kyle McIntyre led St. Ignatius with 16 points each to advance to the final four in the JV bracket. Carter Wideman also scored 16 for Wisconsin.
Loyola Academy 84 Michigan 46
Loyola Academy never let off the gas while advancing to the final four. Billy Kotin had a game high 25 points and hit five of Loyola’s nine threes in the game. Dontrell Dixon led Michigan with 16.
