Loyola Academy’s Scotty Dean had another big game with 29 points and was followed later in the day by Maine West’s Jared Pearson’s 27 point outing in the Varsity League. A 28-point game by Alex Arango for his Iowa team highlighted Frosh/Soph play on Sunday. Playoff schedules and statistics can be found at ALL IN’s website
VARSITY HIGHLIGHTS: Week 6
Glenbrook South 71 Maine West 57
Glenbrook South finished the regular season with one loss as it outpaced its opponent the whole game despite a 27 point outing by Jared Pearson of Maine West. Drew Maytum scored 21 points and was followed by teammate Bo Hubbard’s 17 to lead Glenbrook South.
Niles West 62 Ida Crown 56
Niles West played iron man basketball with only 5 players in the first of its back-to-back games. Andrew Pabst led all scorers with 20 points for Niles West as it held off a late push by the always tough Ida Crown team. Micah Cohen and Ben Miller led Ida Crown with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Niles West 74 Loyola Academy 64
A very impressive performance by Niles West holding off Loyola Academy and Scotty Dean’s 29 points during back-to-back games with only 5 players. Andrew Pabst once again scored 20 points for Niles West as teammates Adan Steferovic and Will Larde scored 16 each.
Wheeling 49 Hoffman Estates 43
A slow start to the second half did in Hoffman Estates who couldn’t quite take the lead over Wheeling despite a 19-point game by Nahum Smith-Hernandez. Wheeling was led by Jaden Terrell’s 14 points.
Kansas 55 Maine East 54
Anthony McGhee had a big outing with 25 points for Kansas, scoring at all three levels, and was aided by teammate Frank Taylor’s 14. Maine East received it’s usual strong game from Shiv Amin, scoring 18.
Glenbrook South Sophomores 51 Kansas 50
Playing up in the varsity league, Glenbrook South pulled off the upset against Kansas, who played back-to-back games. All six players scored for Glenbrook South, led by Nathan Shapiro’s 13 points. Frank Taylor was once again a leading scorer for Kansas with 16.
FROSH/SOPH HIGHLIGHTS: Week 6
Wisconsin 66 North Carolina 60
North Carolina’s 14 threes weren’t enough to top Wisconsin and leading scorer Sean Figiel’s 20 points. Carter Wideman and Robert Jones backed up Figiel with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Connor Mosele led North Carolina with 17, and hit 5 of its threes.
North Carolina 80 Duke 30
North Carolina bounced back in its second of three games on the day. Everyone pitched in for North Carolina on the scoreboard, but Michael Crimmins 15 points led all scorers as his team hit another 12 threes.
North Carolina 87 Indiana 67
In its third game, North Carolina didn’t rely as heavily on the three, only hitting six, as they led Indiana the whole way. Sean Clavadetscher was high scorer with 19 points for North Carolina, and was backed by Connor Mosele’s 16. William Suh led Indiana with 18 points, including four threes.
St Ignatius 75 Wisconsin 68
Wisconsin couldn’t pull out a second win on the day as sophomore transfer Kyle McIntyre and freshman Jackson Kotecki led St Ignatius with 19 a piece in a back and forth battle. Sean Figiel had another strong outing with 17 points, but Wisconsin was led by Carter Wideman’s 18.
Illinois 43 Notre Dame 39
In a defensive battle, Brennan Moore’s 19 point game for Notre Dame wasn’t enough to defeat Illinois. Al seven players scored for Illinois, who was led by Nick Durst’s 13 points.
Iowa 84 Clemson 44
Alex Arango’s high of 28 pints in the frosh/soph league on the dayled Iowa in its win over Clemson, with all 28 coming inside the three-point arc. Michael Crimmins led Clemson with a strong outing of his own, scoring 23 points.
Loyola Academy 69 Iowa 60
A 43-29 lead at halftime was all Loyola Academy needed to overcome a late run by Iowa. Connor Crisper led all scorers with 21 for Loyola Academy. Alex Arango once again led his Iowa team with 16 points.
Virginia 94 Indiana 43
Playing with only 5 players, Indiana took on a 7-man Virginia team that had three players score over 20. Nick Taylor led all scorers with 23, but teammates Nate Kasher and Antoine Thomas scored 22 each for Virginia. Rory Robbins led Indiana with 16 points.
Georgia Tech 43 Syracuse 32
All seven players for Syracuse scored but no one managed to hit double digits in its loss. Gaven Marr and Daniel Xu led Georgia Tech with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Michigan 58 Notre Dame 43
Harry Proeh’s 17 points, Soham Sarkar’s 15, and Malachi Webster’s 14 pushed Michigan ahead of Notre Dame as it took an early lead and never looked back. Jack Tzur led Notre Dame with 13 points.
