This was very difficult to choose because there are a ton of great teams throughout the conferences. Additionally, it is hard to determine who would win when a head to head contest when some of these teams never play each other.
#1 Millennium (5A)
I think Millennium is without a doubt the top team in state. No offense to the other talented squads we have here but they just have so much talent on their roster. DaRon Holmes is one of the top players in the country and he’s surrounded by very talented players. Millennium has played some of the best teams in the country and are very battle tested as well.
#2 Cesar Chavez (6A)
Deciding between Ironwood and Cesar Chavez was very close but I gave the edge to CC because of Ty Ty Washington. He has blown up and is one of the top prospects in his class nationally. Ironwood is a very good team but they do not have that type of talent on their roster, however I do think it would be a close game.
#3 Ironwood (5A)
Ironwood comes in next, they are one of the top teams in 5A and I have them picked to be the 5A State Championship Runner-Up. They have some solid transfers that I think could make a huge impact on their team. Since, we haven’t seen them in action yet, Ironwood will remain a little lower in the Top 5.
#4 Skyline (6A)
Skyline comes in at #4! I gave them the edge over Salpointe Catholic because I could see their top PG’s virtually canceling each other out throughout the game. I think Skyline is just the more well rounded team overall.
#5 Salpointe Catholic (4A)
Salpointe rounds out our Top 5 teams in state and it is more than well deserving. I’ve seen a couple of AIA scouts/writers call Salpointe the top team in state. While everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions, I do not share that belief. They are definitely a top 5 team but I think they other teams listed above would be too much for the Lancers.
