Top 250 Prep Hoops Expo: 2020’s Usual Suspects

The Prep Hoops 250 Expo was a success this past weekend as we had our players play in front of college coaches as showcase what they had. While there were plenty of new faces that shined we got another look at a few of our ranked players from the 2020 class that were already on our radars. Here is how those players fared.

Micah Lamberth – Classical Academy – 2020

Lamberth is a played that jumped on the scene and is one you have to take serious as a duo-threat option. He can score and defend and with his size he is able to see/shoot over smaller defenders and also have his way inside. Lamberth kept his team in games with his ability to score in the post. He was getting inside and carving up the defense and also had to take more of a point guard role despite being one of the taller player son his team which showed he is a better playmaker than expected. At the event he was able to knock down a few shots but saw his stock rise as a scorer from the lead guard spot that is able to switch it up every now and then. I like Lamberth as a prospect more schools should have their eyes on as he will help a small school at the next level.

Turumbil Zaki – Denver South -- 2020

Zaki is one of those players who stands out due to his size and quickness. He is a strong combo-guard that demands attention as he is cutting, setting screens, rebounding and also getting what he wants inside. When his layup does not go in he makes sure to get the rebound and also is a versatile defender that is able to guard multiple positions at an elite level. His footwork on both offense and defense separates him, he has a good change of pace and he gets what he wants inside. Zaki has an endless motor, was used a ton in pick and roll situations and has long arms which caused him to be a pest to both guards and bigs.

Keyshawn Maltbia – Fountain Fort Carson – 2020

It was a shame that Maltbia was surrounded by the team that he was because I wanted to see him get after it as he usually dominates in this type of setting. He does not back down to other top guards, he is a leader by example that gets it done on both ends of the floor and one thing you are always going to get from him is buckets. His team was beating teams so bad that we did not get to see him standout as a scorer but make no mistake about it, he got what he wanted. Maltbia is one of the state’s few guards that you can put in a iso on a island and he is going to score more time than not. He makes great passes, can shoot the ball from deep and is a great ball handler. What we seen at the showcase was a bit of him as a true point guard that is going to find his guys. He was throwing oops, causing problems on the fast break as scoring with ease. Maltbia is a bucket.

Colton Sanders – Thunderridge – 2020

Sanders is one of our guards that we continue to see that can play both point and shooting guard. He is an effort guy that does not force too much and is going to push the opposition every time down. He knocked down a few shots, played strong on-ball defense and also made a few good passes as a standout. What I would like to see a bit more of is the scoring. It appears to be easy for him to get by his defender, from there he must stay aggressive and going up with some of those shots. Also with him being a capable shooter, letting it go a bit more on the perimeter will cause more problems from the defense. All-in-all a good overall event from him.

Kameron Godley – Falcon –2020

Godley is one of those players that coaches love. He is a hard worker that gives his all on both sides of the floor and even when there are mistakes it is made with full effort so it is accepting. He is talking the entire time on the floor, he is diving for loose balls, taking charges and in help side defense. He is a big man that can get out on the perimeter a bit and has soft touch around the rim. He moves well and has great strength and boosted his stock as an all-out effort player to watch moving forward.
