Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer.
24 — Sam Somerhalder, 6’5, G/F, 2022, St. James, Team KC Black 15. @SJ_Somerhalder4
An underrated rising prospect in the 2022 class in Kansas, Somerhalder is a smooth wing player with good size and a versatile skill set. He can handle the ball in the open floor, is a good rebounder and moves well off the ball. He put together a good weekend for Team KC Black and showed off an all-around game.
4 — Ahjany Lee, 6’7, F, 2022, St. Mary’s, 2022, KC Run GMC 15U
Lee is a player who is raising his profile this off-season as he continues to grow as a prospect. He has terrific length and an emerging skill set. He has the kind of size major college basketball programs look for in a wing player and the agility and athleticism to play on the perimeter as well as in the paint. He is a versatile defender who works hard on the glass and is a strong rebounder.
43-Elijah Delp, 6’6, F, 2022, St. John, NLHA 15 Perez
Delp has elite height for his age and shows promise as across the board as an all-around rim defender and scorer. At 6’6, Delp makes the most of his height and gets several touches by playing up and aggressive inside. His length also played a large role as he was able to contest shots, get blocks and secure rebounds.
4-Mason Belcher, 6’4, F, 2022, Maize, NLHA 15 Perez (Pictured)
Belcher is a good combo forward who has size and length. He moves well in and out of the paint and showed an interest in rebounding and playing in heavy contact situations. Belcher keeps his head up and looked to cut inside and finish plays close to the basket.
10-Lance Bassett, 6’2, F, 2023, Piper, Drive 5
A strong post player who has a physicality to his game that is difficult to stop. He can put his head down and move opponents out of the way and finish with two hands near the rim. Bassett can back people down with his back to the basket and scores well when he’s squared to the goal and has room to operate.
