Recruiting Report: Max Brooks (2020)
Ask people about the basketball in the state of Maryland and I bet you not many point out Charles County. It may seem like a ways away from D.C. and Baltimore, but make no mistake, teams down there are started to utilize talent effectively and send them off to the next level prepared. One school included in that conversation is St. Charles. Coach Campbell and his staff have done a nice job of developing prospects on and off the floor. This upcoming season, they’ll boast yet another impressive roster.
Max Brooks, a transfer from Great Mills, could be one of the best unsigned seniors in the area. I caught up with the 6-foot-7 wing a few weeks back after a productive showing at the DMV Elite 80.
PH: What went into your decision to transfer to St. Charles?
MB: So my parents got a new job in the Charles County area, so we had to move down there. There was a whole bunch of stuff happening in the Great Mills, so it was just a better decision to move down to the Charles County area.
PH: How was your spring and summer?
MB: I played with DC Premier and it was great. I got a lot of exposure and played a lot of games. They definitely helped me a lot.
PH: What were some improvements in your game that you sought out and felt as if you did improve on?
MB: Just becoming more of a guard. Expanding my range. DC Premier helped me with all of that a lot.
PH: How was your junior year at Great Mills?
MB: I did pretty good. I was more of a three and four, so I was expected to block shots and rebound. I really had a breakout junior season.
PH: The move kind of works out perfectly with Darius Miles heading out to IMG Academy. Is that the same type of role you see yourself stepping into?
MB: Yeah, just being a versatile wing and guard.
PH: What’s your recruitment looking like?
MB: I have offers from UMass-Lowell and Canisius. I’m hearing from App State, Maryland Eastern Shore. I visited Towson this summer as well.
