Capable of stretching it out to three and has added strength since we saw him last which will help in him in the paint. Could be one of the potential breakout players this season in the Chicago Public on one of the state’s most talented teams.
How did his summer go with Meanstreets 16U?
“I don’t think we played that well at Peach Jam, but I think it was a good learning experience to get around.”
Newell spoke about the growth in his game heading into his junior campaign.
“I saw development in ball handling and strength. I have been in the weight room a lot. After our last tournament in July I was in the weight room for like two weeks straight.”
On a loaded team Newell discussed what his role will be on the team this season at Whitney Young.
“I am looking for a lot more minutes and a lot more production out of me. I feel like I have to play defense and play hard. Rebound. Come in and score knocking down a three.”
