A 6’1 guard, Kidd takes pride in his defensive abilities and has terrific court vision. He likes to put the ball on the floor and attack the paint where he is capable of dishing to open teammates or finishing tough chances around the basket.
He says the experience of playing with MoKan has helped prepare him for the upcoming season at Washburn and perhaps even beyond.
“We played in competitive tournaments that pushed us to work hard and improve,” Kidd says. “The level of competition we played prepared me to play at the varsity level this high school season.
“This offseason I have worked on my ball handling and strategic game time decision making. I have improved on both.”
A year ago,Kidd mostly played junior varsity as a talented and senior-laden Washburn Rural team advanced to the 6A state championships where they finished second overall.
“I didn’t see many varsity minutes last season but on the JV level, I provided good defense and scoring,” he says. “I am ready to be a leader and driving force on varsity this school year.”
Kidd says his parents have had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“My mom and dad are my biggest influences for me in basketball,” he says. “From pushing me to get in the gym everyday to getting me in the best situations to improve, being there to support, and helping me play on teams that push me to get better.”
A fan of Kyrie Irving, Kidd says he enjoys watching the guard play and tries to work some of his moves into his own game.
“I respect many but I love to watch Kyrie Irving and put some of the moves he uses into my game,” Kidd says. “He is an elite scorer and I would like to be the same. I just like watching great basketball!”
