With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top go-to guys in Class A:
Boden Skunberg, Jamestown
The Bluejays lost a lot to graduation but they’ll be one of the best teams in the state again this winter. Some of that is due to what looks like a really talented junior class. The main reason though is Boden Skunberg. A front-runner for Mr. Basketball and the Player-of-the-Year in the WDA, Skunberg averaged 23 points and seven rebounds per game as a junior and he’ll have more responsibility and opportunity to stuff the stat sheet this year.
Grant Nelson, Devils Lake
Nelson is one of the best two-way players in the state and showed he can produce against top-notch competition this summer on the AAU circuit. At 6-foot-8, he’s got the ability to score inside and out while also hitting the offense glass. He’s capable of putting up numbers against defenses geared to slow him down.
Jorn Everson, Williston
Williston should be improved this winter and the main reason why is Jorn Everson, who could blossom into one of the best players in the WDA. A talented shooter and scorer, Everson spent this past summer playing with the Pentagon Schoolers where he showed the ability to impact the game as a defender, passer and rebounder. If he combines all those things, he’s capable of leading Williston to a lot of wins.
Talon Hoffer, Fargo Shanley
Hoffer is one of the most well-rounded players in the state and showed he can impact the game in a variety of ways last year. The 6-foot-2 swingman averaged 16 points and better than three assists last year and had a really good summer playing with Inspired Athletics. He’s very good at creating his own shot, a better long-distance shooter than his percentages showed last year and he can create for his teammates.
Jaxson Wiseman, Bismarck St. Mary’s
Wiseman is terrific on and off the ball, as he’s an adept cutter, knockdown shooter and shot-creator. He put up better than 17 points per game last year and will have an even bigger role in the offense this winter as he takes on more ball-handling responsibility. He’s got the ability and he’ll have the opportunity to lead the WDA in scoring.
