New Names We Learned: Florida Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo (Part 2)

<p>The 4th annual Florida Prep Hoops Top 250 was a massive success on Sept. 8.</p> <p>202 high school prospects (2020-2023) competed at a high level at Daytona Mainland where 20 plus college coaches, 15 plus media companies and a plethora of parents and family taking in the action.</p> <p>We will have coverage all week long about the event.</p> <p>Here is a look at the second of the three-part New Names We Learned series.</p> <p><em>ICYMI:</em></p> <p><strong>Part 1</strong></p> <h3><strong>Ferlin Joseph (St. Pete)</strong></h3> <p>St. Pete is going to look different this season and one player who has a chance at a key role for them is 2020 6'3" guard <strong>Ferlin Joseph.</strong> I've seen him before, but his improvements are evident. The senior is an impressive athlete who gets into the paint with his speed and length and he was able to do that often in Daytona. Joseph is a steady presence and someone who can get up and down the floor with ease.</p> <h3><strong>Khamari Mcgriff (Rickards)</strong></h3> <p>One of the most unique wings at the event was 2021 6'6" Rickards forward <strong>Khamari Mcgriff. </strong>He is beyond long and can mix it up as a shot blocker. An active defender, he made a couple of really nice lay-ins and hook shots on the offensive end. Mcgriff needs to get stronger all around, but he's a junior to keep a close eye on in terms of his progress.</p> <h3><strong>Zach Johnson (Sickles)</strong></h3> <p>Speed is everything for 2022 5'9" Sickles guard <strong>Zach Johnson. </strong>His pace is reliable and it makes life easier for everyone around him. He makes defenses look bad with his handles, high IQ stretch passing and confident jumper. Johnson transferred over from Armwood and is going to be an important piece to a Gryphons squad that features 2022 forward Dillon Mitchell, 2022 guard Javohn Thomas and 2020 forward Trey Jones.</p> <h3><strong>Woody Machado (Oldsmar Christian)</strong></h3> <p>I came away super impressed by 2023 6'2" Oldsmar Christian guard <strong>Woody Machado. </strong>A lifer at Oldsmar Christian, he's certainly not small for a freshman nor is he lacking confidence. Machado is in line for early playing time on the varsity squad and his solid decision making is going to help him progress quickly.</p> <h3><strong>Brian Elliott (Santa Fe Catholic)</strong></h3> <p>Previously at Lakeland Christian, shooting is the top asset for 2020 6'5" Santa Fe Catholic guard <strong>Brian Elliott. </strong>He will bring a new dimension to a Hawks program that has a slew of true athletes. Elliott won't blow by defenders, but he doesn't need to because he's always moving to get open and he can drill jumpers right in front of defenders.</p>
