We’re still 6 weeks away from the official start of basketball practice in Kentucky but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to look ahead to what should be a terrific 2019-2020 season. Here’s a look at the best Backcourt Duos in Kentucky this season. They are presented in no particular order.

[player_tooltip player_id="706003" first="Dayvion" last="McKnight"] and [player_tooltip player_id="915103" first="Marcellus" last="Vail"], Collins - The lone duo on this list where both members hold D1 scholarship offers, McKnight and Vail are hoping to get Collins back to Rupp Arena after playing there as freshmen.

[player_tooltip player_id="716839" first="Justin" last="Powell"] and [player_tooltip player_id="932769" first="Dallas" last="Roberts"], North Oldham - Justin is already committed to Auburn and is the top ranked player in our 2020 rankings. Dallas is one of the top freshmen in the state. Combined they make one of the best guard pairings in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="783053" first="Jake" last="Evans"] and [player_tooltip player_id="783045" first="Tyren" last="Moore"], Male - Evans is the floor general, Moore is the shooter next to him in the backcourt. Combined they look to lead the highly touted Bulldogs team to Rupp Arena. Either can play on or off the ball. Both will be college signees by the springtime.

[player_tooltip player_id="783031" first="Marques" last="Warrick"] and Maquis Mackey, Henry Clay - Everyone knows about Warrick but [player_tooltip player_id="915152" first="Marquis" last="Mackey"] is one of the more underrated guards in the Senior class. Combined, they are hoping to lead Henry Clay to Rupp Arena now that the Scott County dynasty is over in the 11th region.

[player_tooltip player_id="915110" first="Dre" last="Boyd"] and [player_tooltip player_id="915121" first="Kobe" last="Brents"], Warren Central - Boyd is an athletic guard who is moving to the point guard spot this season. Brents is a shooter with "in the gym" range. If they can outperform their Junior seasons, the Dragons may be able to win it all at Rupp Arena in March.

[player_tooltip player_id="783041" first="Amari" last="Taylor"] and [player_tooltip player_id="915146" first="Cion" last="Townsend"], Tates Creek - Taylor is fundamental. Townsend is flashy. If they can play well together this season (and get some help), they can get Tates Creek back to the 11th region tournament for the first time in a long while.

[player_tooltip player_id="922990" first="Jaden" last="Rogers"] and Darian Lewis, Fern Creek - Most people know about Jaden but few realize that Lewis is actually more likely to play point guard this year while Rogers plays off the ball in a score first role. Together, they form a tough backcourt.

[player_tooltip player_id="706056" first="Amirion" last="Joyce"] and [player_tooltip player_id="783096" first="Nakyir" last="Joyce"], Bourbon County - The only two guards on this list who are also related (as far as I know), the Joyces are a tough tandem. Amirion can score and Nakyir is a pest on defense. They have Bourbon in a position to threaten for a birth at Rupp Arena this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="922997" first="Kale" last="Gaither"] and Eli Wilkes, Union County - Gaither is a score first guard. Wilkes is a gifted passer. When they’re clicking, they are possibly the best guard duo in the 2nd region. If they get some help, Union could get to the regional tournament this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="793767" first="Jaylen" last="Fairman"] and [player_tooltip player_id="926885" first="Brandon" last="Rayzer-Moore"], Jeffersontown - Still waiting to see how Fairman will do at J-Town after moving over from Indiana but the potential of this pairing is to be among the best in Louisville. Rayzer-Moore is a potential high D1 prospect and Jaylen could be among the best floor generals in Louisville.
