KANSAS CITY — Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several players who stood out at Sunday’s Top 250 Expo held at the Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City.
9 — Joe Berry, 6’2, G, 2021, Washburn Rural
Berry continues to impress after a strong summer playing up an age level with KC Team Yobo’s 17U squad. He has a basketball frame with long arms, broad shoulders and can play above the rim at both ends of the court. Berry has a smooth shooting stroke with good range beyond the 3-point arc, but can also handle the ball and get to the basket as well.
20 —Sterling Chapman, 6’4, G, 2021, Campus
A good-sized player who takes chances on defense and looks to score on offense. He likes to play the play the point and has great handles and a collection of isolation moves. A smart, skilled guard who is a play-maker for others and himself. He can get to the basket and connect from the free throw line if all else fails.
32 — Sam Derning, 6’3, G, 2021, Shawnee Mission West
A solid all-around guard with good size at 6’3 with a well-rounded skill set, Derning made an impact this summer and shows the ability to defend several positions due to his athletic frame and overall athleticism. He is a dual-threat player and has a high basketball IQ and can take opponents off the dribble and play big inside and out.
54 — Harper Jonas, 6’5, G/F, 2020, Andover
Jones is an athletic wing player who runs the floor exceptionally well and brings good size to the floor. He can knock down open shots from the outside, and can handle the ball a little as well. He is at his best in transition where he is a strong finisher. Jonas moves well off the ball, finding open seams in a half-court defense for easy buckets.
40 — Jayden Hall, 5’9, G, 2021, Campus
A much improved Hall jumps out quick and makes a strong impression. He is smart on his feet and has some toughness to him. He played strong defense against taller players and primary ball handlers and was physical and found ways to get open 3-point shots and easy looks around the basket. A bouncy player with a great rhythm to his game.
