No one wants to set screens to get guys open. No one wants to battle on the glass for 32 minutes. Athletes today are being taught that basketball is becoming a position-less game, but at the high school level both bigs and perimeter athletes have roles that can help their teams be successful. Here are 5 bigs to watch this season live:
Shannon Grant (Sylacauga)- Big Shannon just picked up an offer from Mercer. The 6’10 post is a load to handle on the block, he is active on the glass, and the kid can knock down shots out to 15 feet. Shannon will pick up more offers if he shows the ability to stay on the floor.
Cameron Boozer (Lanett)- Boozer is one of the most athletic bigs in the state. This 6’9 athlete is active on the glass, a very good help side defender, and he plays above the rim. Boozer has shown the ability to stretch the floor to the 3 point line. His athleticism gives him the ability to play both the 4 and 5. Will be shocked if D1 programs don’t offer this kid.
Cole Larue (McGill-Toolen)- Larue is the most skilled big in the state. He is 6’9, can put it on the floor some, stretch the floor, battles on the glass, and has very good passing ability. Larue should have a more featured role this season at McGill-Toolen. The post from Mobile is already receiving LM offers, and we expect more to come.
Trinity Bell (Albertville)- Bell has been a dominant force in the 2021 class. The 6’7 post is strong, athletic, and plays with physicality. He is active on the glass, finishes everything in the paint, and is a very good defender. Bell is a player that embraces being a big in every sense of the word. It is worth noting that bell is also picking up D1 football offers now and offers to play both sports at the next level.
Will Shaver (Oak Mountain)- Shaver is one of the players in the 2022 class oozing with potential. He is just scratching the surface. Shavers is developing very nicely on both sides of the ball. He can stretch the floor, defends well, and the kid can stretch the floor. The 6’8 post from Oak Mountain has already picked up offers from in state programs, and we expect more teams to follow.
