One of the biggest beneficiaries of their play this summer is Lafayette Jeff (IN) wing Brooks Barnhizer.
The 6’5 scorer is currently ranked as our #16 prospect in the class and could move up with a big winter with Lafayette Jeff. He’s definitely getting recruited like one of the best players in the state with a ton of schools showing interest as of late. Most notably, he picked up offers from Butler and Evansville. They join Western Kentucky and UD-Mercy.
Part of the reason schools have latched onto the talented junior is because of his scoring ability. Last season, Brooks averaged 16.2 points per game. He also added with that, 9.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. The best stat might be his 38% from three with 140 taken on the season.
This summer, he showed all of that and more. He’s very good as a driver with the ball and the shooting is locked on so he can pretty much make any shot he wants on the floor with the capability of creating the whole play himself. Can play either the 2 or 3 spot in college and with that independent scoring ability, it makes him an easy take for all low and mid-major programs.
Barnhizer’s story is an interesting one too. While he is originally from Indiana, he moved down to Alabama a few years ago and began playing high school basketball at the Varsity level for his father, Mark, as a 7th grader, something that is allowed in that state. In his 7th and 8th grade seasons, he put up 542 points and he was a 1,000-point scorer by the time he left Bryant (AL) after his 9th grade season. To date, Brooks has scored 1,450 career points at the Varsity level.
