At 5’11, Hutchinson is a crafty ball handler who can create plays for his teammates and sees the floor exceptionally well. He says the experience of running with SSA helped prepare him for his upcoming junior season for the Wildcats.
“We (SSA) are a hard working group that likes to share the ball,” Hutchinson saud. “Nobody on the team cares about there own statistics, all we care about is winning. This summer has taught me how to close games and to play hard every single possession, which will pay off for the high school year.”
He says he still needs to improve his ability to defend as well as improving his ballhandling and become more consistent.
A year ago, he was a key member of a young Hayden team that relied on senior Levi Braun to do a lot of the heavy lifting. This year, Hutchinson and others will be looking to step up and help take the program to the next level.
“We were young with no varsity experience besides our senior leader (Braun) who kept us in all games,” he says. “This year I was able to help my team by spreading the floor with my shooting.”
Hutchinson says the biggest influence on his basketball career to date has been his dad.
“He helped me learn the game at a young age and taught me the right way to play the game,” he says. “He was my first coach as a little kid, and always pushed me to become a better player and person.”
A fan of the Warriors Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, Hutchinson says he is able to take key parts of both player’s games and make them his own.
“I like the way they move the ball and have trust in their teammates,” he says. “Also, I like the way they both come off screens. Their whole team in general is fun to watch because of the way they shoot it and move the ball. I try to implement this into my game by not wasting any time with the ball, and trying to move the ball around.”
