Here is our Grassroots Player of the Year and Honorable Mentions from the 2022 class in Michigan:
Player Of The Year
Emoni Bates (G/F, Ypsilanti Lincoln, Bates Fundamentals)
Lets just start by saying he’s being compared to Kevin Durant and LeBron James. Bates has in the gym range and can drive and finish through contact like no 15 year old in a long time, maybe ever. He absolutely destroyed the competition at the Las Vegas Classic. Bates threw down nasty dunk after nasty dunk at the Peach Jam. In the Peach Jam, he averaged 32.3ppg, 10rpg, and 4apg. He has received offers from in state powers, Michigan State and the University of Michigan.
Honorable Mentions
Jason Drake (G, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, The Family)
Drake showed that he has the potential to be a big time scorer. He’s athletic and under control when attacking off the dribble.
Ethan Dunn (C, East Lansing, MBA)
Dunn used this grassroots season as a way to establish himself as a premier post player in Michigan’s class of 2022. He moved well and battled for position in the paint.
Javaughn Hannah (SG, Mt. Clemens, Bates Fundamentals)
Hannah is an athletic leaper that gets off the floor fast. He’s proved to be a strong and confident player with a college ready frame.
Jack Karasinski (SF, Grand Rapids Catholic Central, MBA)
Karasinski has put himself near the top of his class. He glides down the court and is a versatile scorer with many weapons. At the NY2LA events, he looked like a D1 talent.
Fletcher Loyer (G, Clarkston, The Family)
Loyer was comfortable and dangerous shooting from the corner. He’s a 3 level scorer and strong with the ball in his hands.
Ty Rodgers (SF, Grand Blanc, NEO True Game)
Don’t forget, Rodgers is a top 10-20 talent in the country. He’s an elite athlete that has added a lot of range to his jumper. Rodgers is an athletic rebounder that stays active on the glass.
Chris Smith (PF, Saginaw Arthur Hill, The Program)
Smith is a powerhouse. His strength is well beyond his years. Smith battles in the paint and looks for bodies to box out. He really impressed while playing up for The Program.
Brady Titus (PG, Tri-Unity Christian, UTS Elite)
Titus continued to impress this summer. He’s an explosive floor general who plays downhill on both ends. Titus can wreak havoc defensively.
Keegan Wasilk (PG, Clarkston, The Family)
I love Wasilk’s game and potential as a lead guard. He shows a basketball IQ well beyond his age. Wasilk is a 3 level scorer and a natural leader.
Alex Watters (G, Lansing Christian, Legacy)
Watters simply beats defenders to spots on the floor. He must be accounted for behind the arc. Watters is strong defensively as well.
