We’re seeing these prospects coming in equipped not only with better size and strength, but also skill and IQ for the game. 2022 has potential to be a special class in Baltimore, but there will be a crop of players behind them in 2023 pushing the envelope as these next four years pass.
Let’s take a look at some freshmen who will play in the Baltimore area to keep an eye on who will be playing at the varsity level at their respective schools.
Kwame Evans | 6’7 | Poly/Team Melo ’23
Evans has the highest ceiling out of any prospect entering high school. At 6-foot-7, Evans has tremendous length and ability to score. The southpaw has a smoothness about the way he operates off the dribble and is a capable shooter from beyond the arc. With his size alone, he’s a shot disruptor defensively and with his versatility, can grab rebounds and lead the fastbreak himself.

Jahn Lamothe | 6’1 | St. Frances/Team Thrill
It’s a question of how much Lamothe will produce when you consider the loaded roster St. Frances has, but the fortunate strength of Lamothe is his ability to shoot from three, which is a category that the Panthers are looking for players to contribute in. The 6-foot-1 freshman brings solid size for a guard and a smooth, but quick release to help get his shot off.
Samartine Bogues | 5’6 | Calvert Hall/Team Thrill
The grandson of Dunbar legend and former NBA star Mugsy Bogues, Samartine will start his high school journey at Calvert Hall. He shares similarities with his grandfather such as size, quickness and intensity on the defensive end. Futhermore, Bogues is a lefty and extremely shifty with the ball. He makes sound reads for a freshman and will get plenty of opportunities in terms of playing time for the Cardinals this season.
Jeannot Basima | 6’1 | John Carroll/Global Squad
Basima was an addition that went very under the radar for the Patriots, but he should make an impact quickly with his ability to attack the basket. The 6-foot-1 guard has a solid build to go with a long, quick first step when he catches the ball on the perimeter. He’s shown ability to get into the paint routinely and make good decisions once he makes the defense rotate. Basima also has an impressive motor and some nice tendencies as a defender.
