PHH 17u Black was short on players and in comes in, 11 year old, KJ Fauske (son of PHH Prep Head Coach, Kirk Fauske). KJ checks into the game and immediately sinks a 3 ball! KJ electrified the crowd and finished the game with 8 points and 3 assists and got the W. It was truly an amazing moment and I’ve never seen anything like it before. The courage of that kid is off the charts. Imagine stepping into the game, as a 6th grader, playing against juniors and seniors and HS. That would be super nerve racking and KJ stepped up and was actually productive. Big props to him!
PHH UAA looked decent, they went 1-1 and at times looked really solid. Once this group starts putting it all together and playing as a unit, they are tough to stop. DaRon Holmes played very well all around. He is such a mismatch on the offensive end. Teams try so many different schemes to take him out of the game and he always has something to counter their strategy. Defensively, he turned away a ton of shots as well. Holmes remains one of the most versatile players in the state.
AZ Dynasty (formerly known of PHH Tucson) has put together a solid squad in their first season of being on their own/not affiliated with PHH. Their 17u squad was pretty solid today against AZ Legends. I really liked what Cesar Saenz and Khalid Whitaker brought to the table for AZ Dynasty. Saenz is super versatile and athletic. He has a big frame but moves much like a guard. He can score in a number of ways.
I also liked what Steven Cervantez from AZ Legends has been able to do within the last two days. He can score the ball at a high level. It is hard to determine which level of ball I think he can play at due to his smaller size. I do know one thing is for sure, kid can score the ball!
