Many highly competitive games including the All-Star games.
Here were some of the standout juniors from AZ:
Ty Ty Washington CG 6’4 180 Cesar Chavez
-Big time guard virtually did whatever he wanted. Showed he can control an entire game without scoring with a record 13 assists at my camp. Also had some huge scoring games as well. He plays at his own pace and sizes up his defenders and gains leverage on them and can get by them. He has a better burst then they realize and his athleticism allows him to rise up and dunk the ball. He is extremely strong with big hands and a has a big wingspan to defend. His range is deep and pull-up is pure.
Isaiah Broady SF 6’6 185 Chandler
-Long wing who can shoot it with deep range. Good athlete who can create separation quickly. Uses length and athleticism to rebound the ball and play the passing lanes. One of the more gifted wings in the state but has some bad habits that are easily fixable.
Grady Lewis PF/C 6’7 202 Sunnyslope
-Strong post player with a great build/frame. He seems to rebound everything near him and out of his area. He is truly a tough player and won’t back down deep in the paint. He is hard to move and holds his ground on defense. He has some offense as well. He has a consistent hook shot and you’ll see an occasional drop step. He can face-up but needs to make strides with his range.
Dende Ceder C 6’10 210 AZ Compass Prep
-Long and bouncy post player has good activity around the hoop. He also is starting to face-up out to the 3pt line and in progressing his skills. He has a jump hook shot and just uses his length and athleticism to rebound the ball and keep plays alive. Makes many put-backs and dunks the ball easily and blocks shots. The big kid from the Netherlands moves well end to end and handles the ball decently.
Ricardo Sarmiento PG 5’11 160 Cesar Chavez
-One of the toughest defenders and had the best pull-up at the camp. He is tough, skilled and doesn’t back down to competition. He had a great rhythm working both days. The way he competes and works is very professional. His approach to the game and IQ help him in many ways to achieve his goals.
Steven Cervantes Jr PG 5’11 140 Mesa
-He may have had the best feel for the game at the camp. He understands how to play the game and can shoot it with deep range. He has a good middle game and uses the floater. His ability to change speeds is what you notice immediately. He has a great pace to his game and can make his teammates better.
Montez Taylor PG 5’8 145 Williams Field
-The fastest player at the camp was Taylor. He has speed on speed. He truly runs a team with a good pace and timing. He blows by his defender and can dump it off to a post player or kick it out to a shooter. He can also score it inside or shoot it from the 3pt line. He has improved his shooting stroke and he is a pest on the ball defensively.
Timothy “Ti” Cochrane SF 6’5 182 Williams Field
-Bouncy passing wing who can score. He was arguably the best passing forward from all the juniors and is really athletic. He has good footwork in the post and a good handle. He can hit shots from the perimeter but his play-making/passing ability really stood out. He probably had close to 3 assists per game with very little usage. He flies in the open court and is a stud in transition with his athleticism to finish off tough layups in traffic above the crowd. He needs to become more consistent with his perimeter shooting.
Zereoue Williams C 6’7 230 Mountain Pointe
-Big strong true post player. He has great strength and length and was one of the best rebounders at the camp. He is a very physical player and throws his body around to grab a rebound. He blocks shots in his area and is slowly developing his offensive game. The lefty has a drop step move and can dunk the ball easily. He has to make strides in the next two years offensively but has a lot of promise and upside with his wide shoulders, strong base and natural strength.
Colin Carey SF 6’6 200 Sunrise Mountain
-Bigger forward shooter with deep range. Bouncy vertical athlete who gets off the floor easily. Great off the catch and 1-dribble pull-ups. He doesn’t have a lot of wiggle with his handle and favors his right hand. He will always hold his hat on the fact he can make shots with good size but needs to start progressing other aspects to his game.
