Today, we will be kicking off our series wrapping up how AZ teams did this summer! We are starting with PHH 17u Rise. The team was led by John Ortega and Kirk Fauske and had some of the most talented and highly recruited players in the state. The team played in the UAA Rise Division and did quite well! Last year’s 17u team was on the UAA circuit and under performed, causing this team to play in the Rise. Truly unfortunate, as this team is far more talented and cohesive as a team than in years prior. They could have competed and been successful in the UAA circuit.
PHH 17u Rise finished 4th with a record of 8-2 (UAA.com). As a team, they finished 7th in total offense, averaging 69.7 points per game. Defensively, they finished 23rd, averaging 59 points allowed per game.
During the season, we saw some of their players recruitment really take off. Osasere Ighodaro has become a household name and has received offers from some of the biggest universities in the country. Evan Nelson has continued to play his role and stack up many offers. We saw Logan Phillips get his first D1 offer, that’s always special. We also saw Trent Brown commit and we wish him the best of luck in his college career.
I believe that every player on their team has a D1 offer as of now and are set up to get more in the near future. Overall, I would say it was a successful season and that the team made their organization proud.
