The transfer from Evanston has scored an array of offers recently. We caught up with him to talk spring with the Illinois Wolves, June with his new team, and his emerging recruitment!
Last year he played at Evanston after transferring over from France.
“That was a great experience making it downstate to the championship. We went pretty far. At the beginning of the season it was hard to adjust playing a whole different type of basketball. It is quicker and more physical. In France it is more slowing down and playing smart. It took me time to adjust. When we went to the championship it was a great experience.”
After the season he made the move to Niles Notre Dame for his junior year.
“I went to Niles Notre Dame. We have a good group with D1 players like Anthony (Sayles) and Troy (D’Amico). Also senior Jason (Bergstrom). We have a good group and I think we can go far.”
The Illinois Wolves were his squad on the travel team circuit this spring.
“That was so great. I started with the 17U right away. I played on both teams playing in a lot of tournaments and sessions. It was great.”
His game has really expanded beyond just being an elite shooter.
“When I came here I was mostly just a shooter. I have worked all year and now I can slash and rebound. I improved in my game everywhere and can do everything on the court now.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have offers from Dayton, Nebraska, and Illinois. I have a lot of interest from Tulsa, Miami (OH), Yale, and more”
Lesmond broke down his three offers.
Illinois
“I just came here so I don’t know a lot. I know it is a pretty big school. Big 10 is pretty awesome. I was really happy to get that offer.”
Nebraska
“I have a friend from France that is going there so that is great. His name is Yvan Ouedraogo. We played on the national team in France together.”
Dayton
“Their assistant coach who called me is a former professional player in France. We talked a lot.”
He says he might look to visit some schools once we get into the fall.
