Wright, a 6-foot-2 to-be senior, averaged better than 14 points per game last year and could be primed for a monster senior year. He spent the grassroots season with ECI Selects, showcasing his game against great competition all summer.
“ECI is great, this is the second year I’ve played and I’ve gotten a ton better,” said Wright. “It’s great going against that kind of competition and it’s been a ton of fun. It’s another level of intensity. It’s fun for me on defense, you can get a little more aggressive and play more physical and not get called for fouls.”
Wright’s a big, strong guard who can really impose his will on opposing guards. He’s physical getting to the paint and has the ability to finish in traffic. He’s an adept passer and comfortable making decisions in tight spaces and while his outside shot is a work in progress, it’s enough of a weapon to force teams to defend him out on the court.
“I like getting in traffic, finishing in the lane,” Wright said. “I’d rather drive and draw fouls. That’s something I try to do. The biggest thing for me is my pullups in the midrange. If I can develop that, it’ll make me a more diverse player and make me a threat further from the rim.”
Dickinson was one of the weaker teams in a really strong WDA a year ago. But with Wright back along with several other starters and key rotation guys, things have a chance to be a lot better next winter.
“Been doing a lot of individual workouts throughout the summer,” said Wright. “We’ve played in a bunch of team camps as well. It’s been a busy summer. It’s been fun.”
Wright has drawn quite a bit of interest from some of the local schools in North Dakota about playing at the next level.
“I would love to play in college; I’ve had a few coaches talk to me,” said Wright. “I’ve talked to DSU. Minot State said they are interested in recruiting me. Crown College in Minnesota is another one. I’ve been to the U Mary and Jamestown prospect camps as well.”
