Myren, a 6-foot-2 swingman from Spring Lake Park, is one of the best players in the 2020 class and starting to pick up interest at the Division II level thanks to a strong spring and summer.
“It’s gone by so quick; Matrix has been awesome,” Myren said. “It’s different but I played with a lot of these guys before. The chemistry was there. I feel like I’ve played well. Contributed a lot to the team. We blended together really well where a lot of guys contributed.”
Matrix is super talented and super well-balanced. It’s loaded with guys who pretty much fit the definition of solid and it’s given Myren a great opportunity to expand his game and showcase a really nicely developing overall game.
“It’s helped me focus more on defense, turn defense into offense,” said Myren. “On offense you don’t always get the shots. I’m learning to take better shots, higher percentage shots. Locking up on defense and trusting teammates more. My main thing is defense. I like putting pressure on guys, getting steals. On offense, my biggest strength is getting to the hoop. I need to work on shooting off the dribble and shooting off screens.”
Myren is starting to stand out more and more the more he plays with Matrix and in the last few tournaments, in front of a growing cast of Division II schools, he’s fared quite well.
“I’ve been talking with schools in the NSIC and a bunch of schools in the MIAC,” Myren said. “I visited Sioux Falls and Moorhead but that’s it so far. I’m planning on taking more visits in the fall.”
Spring Lake Park was one of the better teams in Class AAAA and should be a top-10ish team next winter and Myren will have a chance to be an all-state type guy on the wing. Myren said the excitement level for the Panthers is high.
“We only lose two seniors and have a lot of experience coming back,” said Myren. “Four returning starters which is big for us. I think our style of play will change a little bit. We lose our two biggest guys so we’ll have to put more pressure on teams and run a little bit more. We’ve had a lot of team stuff this summer and guys are really excited.”
