Recruiting Notebook: 2020’s Starting To Pick Up Steam

<p>Following up from a long month of July, there are a growing number of offers going out. We have seen a bunch come in over the last few days following the NCAA Camps and we are here to recap the latest.</p> <p><b>Anthony Leal Announces Final 2</b></p> <p>Announcing yesterday, Bloomington South (IN) shooter Anthony Leal is down to his Final 2 schools: Stanford and Indiana.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>Now, things could happen at any time.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p> <p>Leal, a 2020 prospect, knows both schools pretty well, has been on campus at both and part of the reason he chose these schools is because of his academics and thought process. He’s a kid that is aware of the academic aspect of college and life beyond so it would stand to reason that he would, with all of the information at hand, be likely to make a decision sooner rather than later.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p> <p>He should be a fit for either school and right now it looks like a toss up for which he may pick. This is a prospect that had offers from Xavier, Bradley, Evansville, Iowa, Toledo, Maryland, Northwestern, Butler, Cincinnati, and Ohio State.</p> <p><b>Kiyron Powell Standing Out Now</b></p> <p>One of the 2020 players that has been picking up a ton of attention lately has been Kiyron Powell. While still a developmental big, colleges are looking at him with a pretty clear path for development and upside. <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p> <p>He’s had no issues convincing schools to take a chance on him with Murray State, Western Kentucky, Cincinnati, Iowa, and Nevada sending offers in the month of July.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>That is on top of offers from Miami (OH), Evansville, New Orleans, Xavier, Georgetown, Kansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Creighton, Houston, Austin Peay, and Saint Louis.</p> <p>For the 6’9 Powell, he’s done well showing his defensive ability and range as an athlete. Offensively, he has shown growth over the last year and that seems to be the thing that is really standing out because if he can take one big step forward early in his college career, he’s going to find the floor a lot and early.</p> <p><b>Alex Stauffer Developing Quickly At The Right Time</b></p> <p>One of the more interesting developments here this month has been Northridge (IN) post Alex Stauffer. The 6’8 big man is an interesting case because he has the offensive skill set a ton of teams love but defensively is more of a paint protector.</p> <p>Now, the offense for him is playing up really well and colleges are really starting to take hold of that aspect of his game. So much so, he has been picking up offers left and right with Saginaw Valley State, Hope College, Trine, Kalamazoo, and Dallas sending out offers this month.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>IU-South Bend was the first to offer him earlier this summer.</p> <p>Figuring out how to fit him in will be the question for a lot of teams but his offensive production is changing that to more about how can you not. His ability to stretch and shoot and his ball handling for his size, he’s just making plays for his size that a lot of others can’t.</p> <p><b>Other Notes:</b></p> <p>2020 SG Trey Galloway of Culver Academies (IN) picked up offers from Ohio State and Georgetown. He also has offers from IUPUI, Purdue, Nebraska, Butler, Michigan State, Iowa, Indiana, Wake Forest, and Cincinnati.</p> <p>2020 SF Andrew Welage of Greensburg (IN) picked up an offer from Nevada.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>They join Wright State and Vermont on his offer list.</p> <p>2020 PF Will Lasater of West Lafayette (IN) picked up an offer from the University of Dallas. This was his first offer.</p> <p>2020 PG Jacob Jones of Jeffersonville (IN) picked up an offer from UW-Green Bay. They join IU-Southeast on his offer list.</p> <p>2020 SG Avery Beaver of Lafayette Jeff (IN) picked up his first offer from Saint Francis (IN).</p> <p>2020 SF Tre Coleman picked up offers from Western Michigan, UW-Green Bay, Nevada, and Miami (OH). He also had offers from New Orleans, Nebraska, Indiana State, Ball State, Murray State, Akron, IUPUI, Kent State, and Duquesne.</p> <p>2020 SG Sincere McMahon of Crispus Attucks (IN) picked up his first two offers from Western Carolina and Western Illinois.</p> <p>2020 SG Qualen Pettus of Fort Wayne Northrop (IN) picked up his first offer from Indiana Tech.</p> <p>2020 SG Victor Young of Muncie Central (IN) picked up offers from Marian University and Northwood this month. He also has offers from Saint Francis (IN), Goshen, Saginaw Valley State, and Purdue Northwest.</p> <p>2020 PF Charlie Peterson of North Central (IN) picked up an offer from the University of Indianapolis. They join Army as his offers at this point.</p> <p>2020 post Keegan O’Neill of Barr-Reeve (IN) picked up an offer from the University of Indianapolis. This was his first offer.</p> <p>2020 SG Tony Perkins of Lawrence North (IN) picked up an offer from Toledo. They join Morehead State, Tampa, Purdue-Fort Wayne, and Ball State.</p> <p>2020 SF Carson Barrett of Central Catholic (IN) picked up his first offer from Ohio Dominican.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p> <p>2020 PF J.T. Langston of Fort Wayne South (IN) picked up his first offer from East-West.</p> <p>2020 PF Malek Edmonds of Brownsburg (IN) picked up his first offer from Northwood.</p>
