“It has gone well. Coming off winning a gold medal in Brazil everything was great. Then I went to NBA Top 100 Camp and that was good as well. June is going well going up against some good competition. Then had Riverside Brookfield and Ridgewood. I am a little run down from all of this, but I am trying my best to keep playing.”
What was the experience like playing with the national U16 team?
“Nobody lies when they say it is the best feeling playing for your country. There really is no better feeling. Playing against other top players from other countries and we are the best team in the world. Being a part of that it was amazing. I think I played pretty well. My shot was a little, but then I hit the 8-10 threes. I think I played pretty well and did everything that I had to. Overall it was good.”
He enjoyed the whole process from training camp, to games, to getting to know some of the best young players in America.
“It was good. Training was hard. Two a days in Florida. Having great teammates at a high level was really fun. It was really fun building relationships. We talk all the time now. It was super fun to get along with them.”
Where did he excel the most with USAB?
“My shooting was really good. My defense is improving. I didn’t handle the ball as much with so many point guards. What I learned about my game is my shooting is really good spotting up.”
Christie landed several more offers after his play in Brazil.
“After USA I picked up offers from Villanova, Virginia, Oregon, and Indiana have all offered. I am still taking it slow. There is really no decision coming up soon or cutting list. It feels great having high level schools offering me scholarships. Not a lot of 16 year olds get to go through all this. I am trying to take my time with the help of my parents. Trying to take it all in and enjoying the process.”
On June 15 coaches could start calling and texting 2021 prospects directly. How has that been?
“It is coming a lot. A lot of the same coaches are calling and texting trying to build relationships so I am trying to get back with everyone. Build relationships because those relationships will last forever.”
Christie doesn’t have any visits planned at this time, but he spoke about what he is looking for to separate the schools recruiting him.
“Coaching. How much they show interest. How much they come out to games. How much they call. I want to feel like I am home on campus. My goal is to get to the NBA so I am looking for a coach that can do that.”
