Maricus Grant 6’2″ Marcus Denmon Elite (Battle): An excellent two-way point guard who excels on the defensive end with his ability to disrupt the opposing team with his ball hawking ability from anywhere on the court. He will pick the pockets of opposing ball handlers and strip unsuspecting bigs inside. His overall offensive game as continued to evolve as he has added a good floater and a mid-range jumper off the bounce. He can also make open 3-pointers. This has all complimented his ability to slash to the basket with his size and strength.
Phillip Russell 6’0″ Brad Beal Elite (Vashon): Russell took over the leadership of a makeshift BBE team for the weekend that came away with three victories. He did a good job of trying to organize the team and get new players into their right positions on offense. He was vocal and played the role of a floor general with his ball handling and distribution. He was also one of the top perimeter marksmen in the tournament as he displayed range from well beyond the 3-point line.
Kobe Campbell 6’0″ Marcus Denmon Elite (Raytown South): A slashing combo guard with a high basketball IQ who can play at different tempos very effectively. He was very good at getting to the basket and creating buckets at the rim at different angles and with both hands. His 3-point shooting has improved which gives him an added weapon to his offensive game.
Jace Lance 6’0″ Team YOBO (Marshall): A very capable point guard who can run the show and facilitate the offense with his passing skills and also play off the ball where he can look for his offense and knock down 3-pointers. He plays with a lot of poise and he has a good feel for the game, which isn’t surprising since he’s a coach’s son. He has solid quicks and can get into the lane and also has a nice stop and pop jumper.
Dez McKinney 6’0″ Marcus Denmon Elite (Raytown South): A very aggressive combo guard who brought high energy play at both ends of the floor. He plays with excellent pace and has a lot of toughness to go along with it. He is a tough defender who will hawk the ball and dart into passing lanes for steals. His best weapon on offense was his ability to get downhill on the dribble and score through contact.
Tayven Glasgow 6’3″ Team KC (Lee’s Summit West): A thick-bodied floor general who plays a very controlled game in the manner of an old-school floor game, which means he looks to set up teammates and organize the unit. He uses his size and strength to bully his way to the basket for post-ups and physical drives. His 3-point shot has also become a very valuable weapon in his offensive game.
Brennan Jeffries 5’11” Mid-Mo Elite (Jefferson City): A tough guard who did a nice job of running his team as a playmaker, facilitator and shot maker when the team needed it. He was very good at handling pressure defense and getting his team into their offensive sets. He penetrated into the lane well and delivered some pinpoint passes with both hands. When left open, he can knock down open 3-pointers. He was also a very reliable free throw shooter, which helped close out a couple of victories.
Cortez Howlett 6’1″ Marcus Denmon Select (Raytown): An under the radar performer who has a very nice overall offensive game. He has good quickness and he could change speeds to get to his spots. He was good with the dribble penetration and his perimeter jumper was also solid. He also displayed some quick hands on defense.
Justin Smith 5’10” Carroll GoL1ve (CBC): A quick southpaw point guard who was one of the most impressive defensive players that I watched during the weekend. He was a pesky on-ball defender with quick hands and strong determination. He was solid on the drive offensively with the ability to knock down an open 3-pointer off the catch.
Hunter Berry 5’11” Missouri Flight-Epps (Bolivar): A solid guard who was a very good passer, especially on a number of alley-oop passes to his very athletic teammates. He was very poised and he didn’t get rattled with the ball in his hands. He knew how to get himself open and use screens to take advantage of his perimeter shooting ability.
