LAWRENCE, Kan. — The 2019 Hardwood Classic wrapped up on Sunday at the Kansas Sports Pavilion with Howard Pulley EYBL 2021 defeating the Marcus Denmon Elite in the championships game.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the tournament’s top defenders in the 16U division from the Kansas side.
13 — Kris Daniels, 5’10, G, 2021, Free State, Showtine 16U (pictured)
Daniels impressed throughout the weekend with his hard-nosed style of play and willingness to get into defenders and play tough, physical defense. He is an underrated defender who picks his moments and knows when he should risk it and dive after the ball.
23 — Devan McEwen, 2021, Labo, SSA Elite Black 16U
McEwen is a jack-of-all trades role player who does a little bit of everything well. He plays defense, guards multiple positions and an knock down shots or get on the glass. He lets the game come to him and is comfortable playing his role.
5-Dylan Wolf, 6’0, G, 2021, Kansas Hoggs
A hard-nosed kid who runs the floor and looks to let his defense do his talking. He can connect from distance and runs the floor well. He likes to operate without the ball in his hands but can handle all ball handling responsibilities if needed. Works to get open and knock down jumpers and score close to the glass.
22-Laython Patillo, 5’7, G, Olathe North, Team KC 16 U Silver
A nice player who’s quick on his feet and knows how to get an open look. He moves off the ball well, can shoot quickly after the catch and he follows his shot and works inside to collect rebounds. He likes to poke at the ball and can force turnovers and pass ahead to his teammates.
