Millennium defeated Cesar Chavez in the rematch to win the Big School Chip. Both schools look to be possible favorites in 5A (Millennium) and 6A (Chavez).
Here were some of the sophomores and freshman who shined who I haven’t previously mentioned:
2022
DeVontes Cobbs SG 6’3 160 AZ Compass Prep
-Uber athletic guard is improving his jumper. He is a quick twitch athlete who is one the best in the class on the break. He gets off the floor effortlessly. He has a big time motor to defend. He is an animal on defense using his supreme quickness, speed and bounce. Received an offer from ASU after the weekend.
Nate Pickens CG 6’1 160 Paradise Honors
-High IQ scorer who can make plays for others. Baby faced guard can shoot it from deep plus pull-up with a soft touch. He has a nice first step to get by his man than usually pulls up from mid-range and scores it. He also can make others better and he plays like a young Ty Ty Washington. If he can push out a few inches, watch out!
Foune Doucoure C 6’7 210 Liberty (Free Agent team-The Show Academy)
-Athletic post player gets off the floor quickly. He has great length and is active near the hoop. He stays close to the basket and uses length and athleticism to score it. His shooting looks decent but can still become more consistent. (Pictured)
2023
Landon Schumaker F 6’5 Basha
-One of the more skilled freshman forwards I have viewed so far. He can handle the ball like a wing and shoot it from deep. He is very crafty to maneuver his way into the paint and use a variety of post moves. He makes good passes to teammates and is already a huge contributor on varsity.
Aadem Isai PG 6’0 153 Valley Vista
-Feel for the game is super high. Has nice stroke with range and sees the court. Cerebral lead guard may be the future of their program. Coaches son just knows how to play and doesn’t get sped up too often.
Kevin Patton SF 6’3 Mesa
-Long and lean forward is getting minutes on varsity. He has a nice looking shooting stroke from the perimeter and he may be their top prospect in the program. A bright future for the baby faced forward.
Young Patton has a bright future.
