Recruiting Report: Dylan Cardwell (2020)
Dylan Cardwell proved that he has what it takes to hang with the best bigs in the country last week at Top-100 Camp. The athletic big man out of Oak Hill is trending up and considering a handful of high major offers. During an interview with Prep Hoops, Cardwell discussed his recruitment among other topics.
PH: How would you describe your game for those who haven’t seen you play?
DC: “I feel like I can really do more than people think. Really every system I’m in, I just set screens, catch and finish. My game is not really one dimensional. I can score on all three levels. I showed my three point range in practice today, which people don’t think I have. I’m very fast. I’m very athletic, so I can take guys off the dribble.”
PH: Who do you model your game after?
DC: “Wendell Carter Jr. I really look up to him. But lately, it’s been Serge Ibaka. Because he can block shots, shoot the mid range really well, has a soft touch around the rim. And that’s similar to my game. Scoring inside out, pick and pops.”
PH: What stood out about your visit to Tennessee?
DC: “What really stood out to me was how cultured it is. How close the students are with the basketball players. I spent my whole visit with Grant (Williams). Getting to know his background. How he came from being a three-star recruit, which is what I am. To being a three-year player, and getting into the NBA Draft which he’s blessed to do. I got to see what they do on game days. It was pretty fun. Great experience.”
PH: What’s your timetable for narrowing down your list?
DC: “I think top five will probably come in the fall. Maybe December.”
PH: What factors are important in your decision?
DC: “How the coaches treat me as well as my family. I look into player development really. A factor that I like is how close the gym is to the dorms. I like walking. Coming from Oak Hill, it’s like a two minute walk. Also really how I connect with the community and culture of the university as well.
