Perkins balances out a sense of aggression as a scorer and the patience it takes to be a good play maker. He led Sanford to two wins on Saturday with the biggest coming against PCL powerhouse Roman Catholic. Sanford was short-handed, but Perkins’ relentlessness with the ball kept a pace that played to both he and his teams strength and eventually overwhelmed Roman Catholic.
Perkins has a strong build for his height to go with quickness and anticipation that allow him to be a presence as an on-ball defender.
Offensively, he mixes it up well as a scorer. He is a capable shooter and despite his lack of size, finishes well at the rim even while embracing contact. Where I found him to be most effective is in high pick-and-roll situations where he can attack the big and force defensive rotations. He makes sounds decisions with the ball and gets his teammates good looks at the basket.
This spring and summer with WeR1, Perkins has been focusing on a few areas of improvement.
“I want to improve on my pull-up off the dribble, shooting efficiently off of screens and you know, just making the right plays every single possession,” Perkins told Prep Hoops.
Perkins said that no schools are currently contacting him. That should change as soon as possible. There’s no reason why a player with Perkins’ skill set couldn’t come in at the Division II level and contribute right away.
