Palm Beach Atlantic Summer Shootout I: Top performers

<p>Palm Beach Atlantic University held Summer Shootout I -- a high school basketball team camp -- Saturday in West Palm Beach.</p> <p>Miami Killian, Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer and North Miami High won their respective bracket championships.</p> <p>Killian held off Monsignor Pace, 75-70, in the bronze bracket championship. Dwyer was too much for Okeechobee, 58-47, for the Silver crown. North Miami, meanwhile, cruised to the Gold bracket title, 55-36, over Anclote.</p> <p>For this report, I concentrated on the Silver and Gold championship games. Here are Saturday's top performers.</p> <p><strong>CARLOS HART (2020), NORTH MIAMI</strong></p> <p>The 6-5 Hart has been on our radar for a while. He brings excellent size to the guard position. Excels out in the open ... good driver with shake. D-1 Stetson has offered as has JuCo Broward College. Palm Beach Atlantic, Seton Hill, North Florida, Ball State, Mercer and Niagara are showing interest. Hart averaged 14. 5 points, 4.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals as a junior. Plays for Miami City Ballers on the travel circuit.</p> <p><strong>CHAMON METAYER (2021), NORTH MIAMI</strong></p> <p>The 6-5/6-6 forward is a big-time D-1 football prospect. The h<span style="font-weight: 400;">ybrid DE/LB </span>committed early on to the University of Miami. On the basketball court, Metayer has excellent quicks for a big. He is a very good driver and passer. "<span style="font-weight: 400;">With his size and strength, I tell him he should model his game after Zion [Williamson]," said North Miami coach <strong>Raynald Benoit</strong>. "But he wants to be Kyrie Irving. We want him to get used to using his strength ... dunking basketball, rebounding. Coming off the football season he’s gotten a lot more athletic. So when he comes back, we think he is going to come in even more athletic. He should be one of our main guys next year."</span></p> <p><strong>JAKOB HESTER (2020), ANCLOTE</strong></p> <p>The 6-5/6-6 Hester plays at the No. 3, 4 and 5 for Anclote. The versatile big is a walking double-double. Banger with a high basketball IQ. Picked up an offer from Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Already had been offered by Bluefield State (W. Va.) College and University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.</p> <p><strong>JALEN COOPER (2020), ANCLOTE</strong></p> <p>The 6-4 guard picked up his first scholarship offer from Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. The combo guard is a team player with a high basketball IQ. Hester and Cooper have been playing on the same teams since the seventh grade. Averaged 13.7 points, 7.2 rebounds as a junior.</p> <p><strong>XAVIER SCOTT (2022), DWYER</strong></p> <p>Veteran Dwyer coach <strong>Fred Ross</strong> believes the 6-foot guard will be special. "<span style="font-weight: 400;">Xavier Scott probably is going to be one of the better ... well, he’ll be a sophomore this coming year," Ross said. "The kid can really play. There is nothing he can’t do. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">He is a great team player, team guy. All the guys love him. He’s a leader by example as well as vocal. All-around complete player." Scott was tough to stop. He scored on the break, he hit multiple 3-pointers, he showed an excellent touch on pull-ups.</span></p> <p><strong>COURTNEY GRANT (2020), DWYER</strong></p> <p>Grant meshes well with Scott in the Dwyer backcourt. Saturday he got it done both shooting from the outside and driving vs. Okeechobee. "<span style="font-weight: 400;">Courtney Grant -- really quick," Ross said. "He’s probably the quickest guy we’ve got in the program. He’s going to be a senior and it’s his time to shine. I think he’s going to do outstanding as well."</span></p> <p><strong>MALCOLM KELLY (2020), OKEECHOBEE</strong></p> <p>The 5-8/5-9 Kelly is an excellent point guard. Kelly has an excellent handle. Gets into the teeth of teams and distributes the ball.
