SF Bryce Hopkins (Fenwick – 2021)
Hopkins had solid week in St. Louis. He measured in at 6’4.5” without shoes with a 6’9” wingspan and 226 pounds. The thick bodied combo forward looked best throughout the week in skill work, controlled 3 on 3 scrimmages, while showing flashes in the games. What you have to like about Hopkins is his high skill level and basketball IQ. Mid-range jumper was falling fairly consistently. Put it on the deck multiple times for scores. Just an all-around skilled floor game. He isn’t the most explosive athlete and that showed against other elite competition, but he definitely made a name for himself with his all-around floor game. He saved his best for last with a monster performance in the camp championship game. Strong hold on the #2 2021 spot for now.
SG Brandon Weston (Morgan Park – 2021)
Weston is a prospect that many causal high school fans don’t know about as he didn’t play high school ball last year, but the Lake Forest Academy transfer is primed for what will be his only season at Morgan Park this upcoming year. Checks in officially at 6’4” with a 6’7” wingspan. Weighs 193 pounds. His best asset is his athleticism. Plays with a high-motor which was shown throughout the week flying around trying to make plays. At times he was a bit out of control, but did make some plays at the rim. Hit a couple threes off the catch and made some quick passes on the interior.
C AJ Casey (Tinley Park – 2022)
Casey is the top 2022 prospect in the state of Illinois. He recently made the transfer from Simeon to Tinley Park where he will play this upcoming season. His measurements were 6’7” with a 6’7.5” wingspan and 186 pounds. The feedback I kept hearing on him and what I also witness was his high activity level. In a camp where he was outweighed by sometimes 50 or more pounds by some of the post players it was great to see how active Casey was. He hit the glass especially on the offensive end with quickness. Also was an excellent shot blocker displaying timing and anticipation on that end of the floor. In drill work he looked fluid handling the basketball. Very intriguing prospect.
