Liam was a critical part of Gonzaga Prep’s 2018-2019 run due to his shooting, intensity and focus on the defensive end. There were talks around the state about where he would take his talents for club ball, as all of his Spokane Griffins teammates would be graduating, including Gonzaga signee Anton Watson. The son of Gonzaga assistant Tommy Lloyd wound up playing with the Under Armour sponsored, Washington Supreme. Carl Howell, the head coach for Washington Supreme, spent multiple seasons in Cheney coaching at Eastern Washington University, just a 25 minute drive from Gonzaga. The transition appears to have been smooth and the younger Lloyd has really carried the momentum from the high school season into the spring circuit, even taking it up a notch as the competition has gotten tougher. The 6’5 off-guard is currently averaging 13.5 points per game, while shooting 40% from the field. He leads the team in steals and grabs over 4 rebounds per game as well. In two of his last three games, Lloyd has put up 24 points two times and made six 3-balls in each of those games.
Liam’s performance so far this spring was good enough to earn him an invite to “The Workout”, which is Under Armour’s invite only camp for the top players in the UAA Circuit. Thanks to his strong play this Spring, the sharpshooter has seen his recruitment begin to really pick up. Eastern Washington, Air Force and Toledo have all offered Lloyd and Davidson College, Steph Curry’s alma mater, is the most recent school to get into the mix. After visiting Davidson recently, Liam told Prep Hoops, “Their coaching staff seemed to have a plan and looked like their program is heading in the right direction. I liked their playing style a lot, because it is very similar to the way I play.” Gonzaga Prep runs a potent half court motion offense with lots of cutting, screening and ball movement and Davidson’s offense definitely does have some similarities.
While his recruitment is picking up, Liam says he has no timeline for making a decision. He is looking for a good fit when making his college choice and he wants to be apart of a winning culture. This should come as no surprise as he has done a lot of winning in his time at Gonzaga Prep and he’s been raised around a winning culture at Gonzaga University. Another thing that is important to Liam when picking his destination will be going to a program with a “good following.” If Liam continues his strong play through the end of July, do not be surprised to see him pick up some more offers when it’s all said and done. We will be sure to keep you updated throughout the process at Prep Hoops!
