A rim running wing player, Wittenberg likes to get up and down the court, spotting up early in an offensive set for an outside shot, or putting the ball on the floor and knocking down the pull-up jumper off the dribble. He can get up a shot quickly and has the ability to score in traffic.
A longtime member of the program, Wittenberg says running with NLHA this summer has helped prepare him for the upcoming season at El Dorado
“Playing for NLHA has been great so far, we have been playing as a unit and knocking down shots when we need them,” he says. “I’ve been playing for NLHA for many years and I can notice improvement from all aspects of my game every year. I had to adjust to the faster pace of the game, which will give me a faster playing style this high school season.”
Wittenberg has focused on improving his ball handling and creating offense off the dribble this offseason and says he is looking forward to helping El Dorado at the varsity level next season.
“This past High school season was a year of ups and downs,” he says, “We had one of the toughest schedules we’ve ever had in a while, which gave us a good opportunity to better ourselves each game while playing good competition. We ended 8-14, but we hope to come back and improve from last year.”
Wittenberg says several people have helped influence his basketball career to date, including his parents and coaches.
“I can’t say that there is one particular person that has the biggest influence on me,” he says. “My parents have provided me with the chance to succeed in basketball which I am very grateful for. All of my coaches from when I started playing to now, have all had a tremendous impact on me by helping me develop my game.”
A fan of Virginia guard Kyle Guy, Wittenberg says he can see some of his own game in Guy.
“ I feel like we have a similar game in terms of shooting,” he says. “He squares himself every time he shoots and is comfortable shooting in any situation. I implemented my dribble pull up into my game from watching him play.”
