Prospect Spotlight: Zach Erwin (2022)
Camanche freshman, 6-foot-3 guard Zach Erwin, has started to assert himself as a Class of 2022 prospect that will make a lot of noise over the next three years.
He’s been lighting it up with the Iowa Mavericks this spring and summer, and showcasing a penchant for scoring at all three levels in the process.
“I think I do a good job on controlling the court and getting my teammates involved and scoring myself when I get the chance,” said Erwin. “I’d like to say I’m pretty good at driving, but when I get an open look for a 3, I can hit those,”
Erwin started to put his name on the map this past winter as a freshman with Camanche, when, as the result of some unfortunate injuries to teammates, Erwin was able to step in and nab a starting spot with the Indians.
“When I came into the season, I didn’t think I was going to be a starter or anything, and then we had an unfortunate thing where some players got hurt that we wish we could have had. So, I got put into that spot,” said Erwin. “And I thought I did a good job of getting people good looks, and an OK job of scoring.”
Now, Erwin is into his 15u offseason with the Iowa Mavericks’ top 15u squad, he says things have been going alright, and they’ll only get better.
“I don’t think we’re doing a bad job right now, it’s a new team and we haven’t played together a lot, when we start to play together more, I think we’ll just get better,” said Erwin, who looking to make some major improvements to his game this summer.
“For AAU, I try to be more of a scorer and to help the team out more and help improve myself for the upcoming season and for high school. I’m just trying to score more and more for the team.”
He added: “I’m really trying to improve in all aspects of the game and recruitment will hopefully come, but I’m not stressing (recruitment) right now.”
