Teams from Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana all competed in front of coaches from the University of San Francisco, Montana, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific, Western Washington, Central Washington, St. Martin, Simon Fraser, University of British Columbia, University of Puget Sound, George Fox University, Pacific Lutheran University, Whitworth, Whitman, Highline CC, Edmonds CC, Tacoma CC and Bellevue College.
There were three 17U teams that finished undefeated for the weekend. Total Package (Washington), Drive U17 Red (Canada) and Global Basketball (Washington). Global Basketball played excellent team basketball on both ends of the floor. Drive U17 Red (Canada) had great shooters, decision makers and inside presence. Total Package had some very smart guards and leaders who willed this team to compete on every possession.
Below is a list of players who excelled over the weekend at the NW Premier Showcase:
Class of 2020:6’7 (PF) Nic Welp (Seattle Prep) Global Basketball 17U
Nic was one of the elite players of the weekend. Nic showed great footwork on the low post, rebounded at a high level, looked very comfortable leading the break after a defensive rebound and showed a beautiful mid range shot. Nic was a huge reason why his team finished 4-0 this weekend. Keep a close eye on Nic Welp. This kid has excellent family genes, I wouldn’t be surprised if grows a few more inches.
Class of 2020: 6’1 (PG) Ayoni Benavidez (Kennewick HS) JDUB Club 17U
Ayoni was one of the most electrifying PG’s this weekend. Ayoni was able to attack at will with some jaw dropping moves, and proved to also be a very efficient shooter. Ayoni was worth the price of admission for the fans in attendance.
Class of 2020: 6’0 (SG) Andrew Devries (Lynden Christian HS) D-1 Elite
Andrew was one of the best shooters of the weekend. Andrew has great elevation on his jump-shot, and proved all weekend to be an efficient shooter from behind the arch and mid range.
Class of 2020: 6’3 (SG) Jackson Reisner (Burlington Edison) D-1 Elite
Jackson also proved to be one the elite shooter of the weekend. With great size, Jackson was able to knock out open jump-shots, but also be very physical and under control attacking the basket.
Class of 2020: 5’10 (PG) Dedrick Mitchell (Squalicum HS) Team WA Elite
We had a ton of good guards over the weekend, and Dedrick Mitchell faced some of top named guards head on. Defensively, Dedrick was able to make other ball handlers uncomfortable and stayed physical attacking the basket under control.
Class of 2020: 5’8 (PG) Colby White (Central Kitsap HS) Total Package 17U
Colby was another tough PG and showed to be a true coach/leader on the floor. Colby knocked down open shots, got teammate involved and attacked the basketball under control. Colby is a tough competitor who plays hard and doesn’t make many mistakes.
Class of 2021: 6’6 (PF) Jace Breakfield (Mountlake Terrace) D-1 Elite
One of the top 2021 players competing in the 17U division, Jace played hard and controlled the defensive glass. A ton of upside for this young man who helped his team to a 2nd place finish in pool play.
Class of 2020: 6’7 (PF) Dominic Parolin (Centennial Secondary) DRIVE U17 Red
Dominic has a great body and really showed a high motor this weekend. Arguable one of the elite players of the weekend, Dominic simply played his role and played under control. He showed great footwork on the post, was physical and ran the floor extremely well. Dominic was a big reason why his team finished the weekend 4-0.
Class of 2020: 6’6 (SF) Jackson Galiardi (Shorewood HS) North City 2020
Jackson was one of the most versatile players over the weekend. Jackson showed the ability to be physical down low, pop out to knock down open shots and also was able to run floor in transition. In one games, Jackson had back to back fast break dunks that ignited his teammates and fans.
Class of 2020: 6’10 (C) Sasha Vujisic (Burnaby South) 3D Basketball 17U
Sasha turned a lot of heads this weekend at the NW Premier Showcase. A true back to the basket post, Sasha showed that he has soft hands, plays under control and also made good passes out of the double team.
Overall there was a lot of good players who competed extremely hard this weekend. The NW Premier staff did an exceptional job.
