WICHITA, KANSAS– The Midwest Grind Session by Prep Hoops has now ended. Teams from several states were in town to compete while hoping to bring home a championship. These are some of the rising sophomores who stood out over the weekend.
Blake Danitschek 2021 Guard Kansas Pray N Play 17U/Kapaun HS
Danitschek had a productive weekend for his Pray N Play team, being one of the few sophomores playing up an age level. Danitschek showcased his ability to score at all 3 levels and possessing an incredible basketball IQ. He impacted the game in several ways, including on the glass and the defensive side of the ball. Danitschek will be a name to watch the rest of the Circuit.
Alex Littlejohn 2021 Guard Kansas Pray N Play 17U/Bishop Carroll HS
Another Kansas Pray N Play kid. Littlejohn, like his teammate Danitschek also had a very productive weekend. Littlejohn shot the three well all weekend and showed that he’s continuing to develop a nice inside game too. A 6’4” guard with a good handle and passing. He’s not afraid to rebound and play some defense. Littlejohn will only continue to rise as the spring and summer go on.
Jaden Monday 2021 Guard SSA Hoops Elite Black 17U/Van Horn HS
A kid I continued to be impressed with. The only sophomore on the SSA squad and you can see why he’s playing up an age level. Monday is a shifty guard with a nice handle and great court vision. Always looking to get his teammates involved and make the extra pass. He’s a great 3-point shooter and gets to the basket with ease, and continues to develop his mid-range game. Monday’s no slouch on defense either. He’s continuously hounding the opposing team’s best guard and he reads the passing lanes incredibly well.
Colby Onyekuru 2021 Guard Oklahoma Power Elite 16U/Edmond Santa Fe HS
A long and athletic wing, Onyekuru is the ideal lockdown defender you desire. While he uses his length for rebounding, he’s also an incredible shot blocker for his size. His offensive game expands out to the 3-point line and he showed his ability to create space for his own shot. He is going to be the perfect 3 & D player with the potential to rise above that.
Sean Pedulla 2021 Guard Team Buddy Buckets/Edmond Memorial HS & Ethan Scott 2021 Guard Team Buddy Buckets/Westmoore High School & Jaden Bray 2021 Guard Team Buddy Buckets/Norman High School
What else is there to say? They’re a 3-Headed Attack. A lot of the talk is going to be about Pedulla and Scott, but Bray deserves a lot of attention as well. Scott and Pedulla torch the nets from beyond the arc and both possess great slashing abilities. Their court vision is incredible, including Bray’s. Bray can shoot from beyond the arc but the way he uses his body to get to the rim and finish is what stood out to me. He’s a crafty guard who’s the perfect complement to Scott and Pedulla. The 3-Headed attack showed why Team Buddy Buckets 16U was one of the best teams in Wichita, perhaps one of the best teams in the nation.
