Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top point guard prospects in the 17U division.
2-Max Alexander, 6’0, 2021, Buhler, Pray and Play
A nice shooter with good handles. Alexander plays well behind the 3-point line. He pushes the ball up the floor and can slash to the basket on occasion. He has the potential and skill to make shots for himself, and did so on occasion, but he looks for his teammates and feeds them the ball.
12-Mike Cahill, 5’9, 2021, St. James Academy, Team KC Black 16U
A quick guard who defends the ball full court. He plays hard and has good hands and footwork. He leans into his opponent and is quick to get back on defense and goes for the steal often. He can also shoot from distance and go inside some.
22-Peyton Mallory, 5’10, 2020, Lawrence, Grandstand Elite
A great point guard who spends more time around the basket getting rebounds than most centers. He takes advantage of open lanes and is great at getting to the basket and scoring with the glass. He has a good deep ball as well and can hit shots with a hand in his face.
3-Trey Reid, 6’1, 2020, Maize South, NLHA 17
A fiery guard who plays hard and uses his length and speed to his advantage. He makes quick decisions with the ball and can let if fly from beyond the arc. He has good footwork as well, he can adjust himself properly when the trap comes and find room to get off a fading mid-range shot.
11-Trey Washington, 5’9, 2020, Derby NLHA 17
A small guard who brings speed and toughness to the floor. He likes to drive and can bring the ball up the floor and kick off the team’s offense from the start. He can finish close to the rim, which is impressive for his size. A high IQ player who runs the floor.
