He is a plus shooter at 6’4” that when he gets rolling from deep is one of the premier snipers in the Midwest. Johnson is at his best moving without the ball to get open coming off screens to get his shot. Skilled player all-around that can pass and rebounds well for his position. PHI spoke with Johnson looking back at his junior year, ahead to the spring with Fundamental U, and we dive into the latest with his recruitment.
We first chatted about his season at Batavia.
“High school season went well. We got better each time we stepped on the floor. That’s what we want to do as a team keep improving and getting better on the little things and closing out games. Individually I had a very solid season. I was first in our coverage averaging 17 points per game shooting 51% from 2 point, and got my career high of 32 points. I would not have gotten there without my teammates finding me in the right spots to score the basketball.”
Where do you feel you improved the most as a player?
“Defensively and my athleticism.”
He spoke to what he is most looking forward to this spring on the PrepHoops Circuit with Fundamental U.
“Just getting back on the floor with the guys and playing the right way. Coach Mike and Coach Rick do a wonderful job of teaching us how to become better basketball players and better people. Honestly just being around the team and the relationships we have with each other.”
What schools are showing the most interest on the recruiting front?
“Tulsa, Belmont, SIU, Princeton, North Dakota, and Wofford.”
He spoke to what he can bring to a team at the next level.
“150% leadership, versatility, plus shooting, and energy.”
