#GrindSZNKickoff: Lengthy Prospects With Upside (Day 2)
The Prep Hoops Circuit #GrindSZNKickoff was in full force on Saturday between nine different gyms in Oklahoma City.
I focused my attention to the action at Solid Rock Basketball.
Here is a look at some of the top big men with upside I saw on Day 2 of the event.
ICYMI:
#GrindSZNKickoff: Steadiest Performers (Day 2)
#GrindSZNKickoff: Best Pure Shooters (Day 2)
Sekou Gassama (Missouri De Smet Jesuit/Gateway Basketball Club)
The upside for 2021 6’10” De Smet Jesuit forward Sekou Gassama is super high and he’s only going to get better. He was active on both ends from the start, drawing contact and getting extra opportunities at the free throw line with an 11-point showing in a win over the Tulsa Hawks to start the day. LSU and Indiana State have offered already.
Grant Jones (Texas Chisolm Trail/Team Griffin)
A confident post player, 2020 6’10” Chisolm Trail big man Grant Jones played hard against Texas Take Over in a night win for Team Griffin. The long and sound footed Jones plays with a chip on his shoulder and it shows. He isn’t afraid to back down defenders and use his pure size as an advantage. Working on his jumper and vocalness will help him in the process.
Jonathan Aku (Texas Bethany/Texas Impact)
Still rather raw as a shooter, the 6’10” big man Jonathan Aku is drawing a ton of looks from college programs including offers already from Georgetown, LSU, Miami, TCU, Texas A&M, UT Arlington, Tulsa, Virginia Tech and Tulane. Aku can get inside and attack with his mammoth frame and that is more than enough right now at this level.
Stephan Morris (Texas Furr/TSK)
One of a handful of 2019 athletes here with 17U programs, 6’9″ forward Stephan Morris has some power to his game. The Furr senior proved his worth with an 18-point game against D1 Houston and quite frankly, he should draw some looks from JUCO’s, NAIA’s and Division II programs in need of a hard working big man.
Erin Outley (Arkansas Parkview/All Arkansas Red)
Growing into his big body, 2021 6’4″ forward Erin Outley added 16 points in a very steady showing in a victory of High Plains Storm. Outley is a football player first, but his upper body strength and long arms give him an added dimension on the basketball court.
