I thought this was a fun topic to cover that we could continuously cover and update as the year goes on and opinions change. Here are my way too early picks for State next season!
Top Teams
Chaparral (Last Year Ranking: #2)
Chaparral had a great season, making it all the way to the State Finals. With the departure of Alec Bryan and Blaise Threatt, the team should regress right? Wrong. I think Chaparral comes back next season and makes a big run at the Championship. With those two players gone, I think the court opens up a lot more for Alem Huseinovic and this kid can score at will. Chaparral is also bringing back Jordan Josephs, who averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds last season.
Perry (Last Year Ranking: #4)
Perry obviously loses a ton with the departure of Jalen Williams and Kyle Patterson, however I think their two young bigs will lead them to success. Dylan Anderson and Carter Van Hammond have potential to dominate 6A next season. Both stand at 6’10 and both have very different games. I truly believe that they can both co-exist on the floor together due to Anderson’s great shooting ability, while Van Hammond is more of a traditional big as of right now. These two young giants have potential to be special.
Cesar Chavez (Last Year Ranking: #7)
The reason why Cesar Chavez is on this list is Ty Ty Washington plain and simple. This is no disrespect at the other players on this team but more of a respect put on Washington. Washington has shown that he still has a lot for to add to his game and shown the dedication to seize that potential. He greatly improved his productivity from his freshman season to his sophomore and he is only going to get better. As a sophomore, he has established himself as one of the elite scorer’s in the state. This team will go as far as Washington can lead them.
