WHBH 17u

Head Coach and WHBH Founder J.P. Primm brings last year's top 5 @PrepHoopsTN 16u team into the hyper-competitive world of 17u basketball.

Coach Primm's professional experience and driven nature enabled him to recruit three elite point guards and one unheralded point guard.

In their first year as a 17u power program, WHBH brings a deep, guard-powered team.

FRONTCOURT: There are no foreboding bigs. WHBH presents a frontline of versatile, nimble, and slightly undersized forwards.

Daniel Loos and J'Quan Ewing can defend similarly sized players and Loos features fantastic post moves. Ewing prefers to shoot mid range offerings. His lowpost game needs more work. He will be key as a defensive rebounder and draws out defenders with his soft shooting touch.

Hillsboro wing forward Ryan Wilcox is strong enough to rebound and score in the basketball forest.

Harry Lackey defends the paint quite a bit in halfcourt sets. He also gives the frontcourt defensive rebounding help. Jamaal Walker - East Hamilton
Winn Gramling - Dickson County

BACKCOURT: Jacobi Wood is the mainstay. Shy off the court, Wood and Cleveland High witnessed a fantastic confidence climb this winter. Wood is a D1-caliber point guard. And he initiates the attack.

Joining Wood is returnee Jeff Norment and hulking Marvin Hughes and blitzing Ray Tyler.

Point guard depth and ball handling are team strengths.

"We think our guards can play with anybody," said WHBH Assistant Coach Will Harris.

Harry Lackey is the wildcard. Now a junior the 6-foot-6 Harry can deeply impact a game with his passing and slashing.

KEY TO SUCCESS: Transition defense. With the many penetrating guards WHBH must commit to recovery runs. The "non-slasher" becomes a strong safety in this scenario.

If the team covers their hides, then it will be a special season.

MOST IMPROVED: Ryan Wilcox. Wilcox played last summer shortly after beginning his knee injury recovery.

Now Wilcox has that stunning athleticism back. His potential is glaring and will be acknowledged soon.

NEWCOMERS: Top 10 Class of 2020 prospect Marvin Hughes joins WHBH after two years starting for Team Thad.

WHBH didn't need more point guards, and yet they added two of Tennessee's best: Marvin Hughes, Ray Tyler.

Tyler gives a quick compliment to overall talent and program leader Jacobi Wood.

DeArre McDonald started last summer, but elected to focus on football exclusively following Oakland High's Class AAA State Tournament run.

Dickson County teammates Winn Gramling and Jayden Davis are new to the GOLD team.

"They played late in the year with Gold, but both will be great additions full-time," shared Head Coach J.P. Primm.
