Commitments
Malik Smith (Alton)
Ranking: #67
Rend Lake got a good one on Wednesday night with the commitment of Smith. The Alton two guard is a scoring presence with his ability to slash and is a capable shooter. Quality defender. Will elevate stock with two years of JUCO.
Matas Masys (Willowbrook)
Ranking: #108
One of the state’s best pure shooters came off the board on Saturday with a commitment to MIT. He is a premier perimeter sniper on the high school level and will do just that at the next level too!
Solomon Oraegbu (Fenwick)
Ranking: #122
This strong and athletic wing posted a quality senior season and will see a bump in the final 2019 rankings. He recently gave a commitment to Wisconsin-Parkside.
Matthew Brend (Wheaton North)
Brend is a guard who had a solid high school career and will continue playing at Lawrence next season.
Recruiting Updates
Deonte Billups (Moline)
Ranking: #36
Billups is one of the top wings still on the board. He had an outstanding season at Moline. Right now IPFW seems to be in the best position. They have extended an offer and he is looking to visit in late March. Western Illinois is also staying in the mix.
Landon Wolfe (Effingham)
Ranking: #40
Wolfe is a crafty wing that uses his strength to score inside and is a plus shooter. He said Northwest Missouri State has been in contact a lot lately. Kentucky Wesleyan, Illinois Wesleyan, and Indiana Wesleyan are all actively recruiting him. He is looking to take some visits and then make a call around mid to late April.
Trey Boston (Downers Grove North)
Ranking: #47
Boston is a microwave scorer that can get hot from behind the arc. He has been getting a lot of attention from JUCOs with Triton being heavily in the mix. He is also considering prep school options.
Demetrius Douglas (North Lawndale)
Ranking: #76
Douglas told PHI that JUCO powers Barton and Vincennes have been in touch with him. Also like Boston he is looking into prep schools.
Khalifah Muhammad (Belleville East)
Ranking: #114
This Belleville East wing has size and scoring ability. He said that McHenry County College is the main school recruiting him at this point. Prep school is a real option as well. (Seeing a trend?)
Josh Redic (Mt. Carmel)
Ranking: #193
Redic elevated his stock with a strong senior season. The athletic wing told us that North Central, Roosevelt, Augustana, Loras, and Aurora are in the mix. Cincinnati Christian and New Hampshire briefly reached out a few weeks back.
Erik Cohn (York)
Ranking: #197
Cohn is a sharp shooting wing with quality size and strength on the perimeter. He says several NAIA schools have shown interest and are looking into what they can offer him. Trinity Christian and Benedictine in Arizona are the ones showing the most interest.
CJ Johnson (West Frankfort)
Ranking: #233
Johnson is a skilled combo forward that can stretch the floor with his shooting. He told PHI that Rend Lake is trying to get him to campus. Also Aurora University and Illinois College are in constant communication looking to get him to visit. His high school coach has talked to SEMO about a potential walk on position.
DeAndre Vortes (Uplift)
Ranking: #245
Vortes is a compact and tough scoring guard that is a powerful scorer at times. He said Northern Oklahoma-Enid and Lewis have talked to him some. Labette is a school he plans on visiting in March.
Vincent Miszkiewcz (South Elgin)
Ranking: Will Be Added in Final Rankings
This senior 6’7” forward has created buzz at the end of the season. We caught him on Wednesday go for 17 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Recently picked up his first D1 offer from Incarnate Word where he plans on visiting March 18-19. Also has an offer from Wisconsin-Parkside and Purdue Northwest jumped in with an offer recently. Interest from Siena, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Canisius, and IPFW.
Maurice McCullum (Plainfield Central)
Ranking: Will Be Added in Final Rankings
McCullum is another guard that has elevated his recruitment as a senior. Landed an offer from Spring Hill where he plans on visiting at the end of the month. Other schools to show interest include St. Michael’s, Ohio Valley, Tampa, and Tusculum.
